Trump, GOP seek to shift blame for shutdown to Pelosi

White House officials and congressional Republicans are seeking to blame the partial government shutdown on Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), as the standoff over funding for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border appears likely to extend into the new year.

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney in an interview Friday said Pelosi can’t move on the wall because of the Jan. 3 floor vote for House Speaker, repeating an argument first made by President Trump in an Oval Office meeting with Democrats.

“She cannot be seen by her party as being weak on negotiating with Donald Trump,” Mulvaney said on Fox News Friday, suggesting that if Pelosi bargained with Trump, it could cost her votes from liberals.

The White House is also seeking to portray a split between Pelosi and Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), who leads Democrats in the Senate.

Oh FFS you had both houses of Congress. If you think waiting for January is going to get you a better deal you have your head way up your ass.

Trump refused to sign it.

Ryan convinced the GOP controlled House to pass what the GOP controlled Senate refused to pass.

So this is now Pelosi's fault?

10. It's not Pelosi's fault at all, but you have your chronology mixed up a bit.

The Senate unanimously passed a "clean" short term funding bill. The Republican majority in the House amended it to add money for the wall and sent it back to the Senate. And the Republican leadership in the Senate, after barely getting a vote through to allow that bill to be debated (the motion to proceed that passed with Pence casting the tiebreaking vote), decided against actually trying to move the bill forward.

Most recently, this past Thursday, the Republican leadership in the House blocked a Democratic proposal for funding the government to be considered, choosing instead to adjourn about four minutes after the session started, with no plan to reconvene until January 3, when they will reconvene to adjourn sine die and allow the new Congress to take over.

We know Trump and his stupid Repukes own the shutdown.

Attempts to weasel out of this shutdown without accepting responsibility makes them 100% complicit and needs to tender their resignations to their constituents immediately with their assets turned over for restitution

Make it seem like the only objections Democrats have are those based on 'politics' and 'not liking Trump' and hence they're opposing what he wants solely on the grounds of 'personality'. That IS TRUMP'S GAME. ALWAYS. Cause it's ALL HE'S GOT.

Democrats need to get out there and explain to the American People how they have Border Security alternatives that are more cost-effective and will do a better job and move the economy forward, and how NONE OF THIS is 'personal' with regards to Trump.

They need to make him look like a friggin' moron for even suggesting that 'building a wall' is the 'best idea' in any way, shape, or form.

That is the path to victory in this rather portentous debate, IMHO.
