(38,958 posts)This is a surprise or somehow a new discovery? This applies to the majority of the GOP members of the House and Senate and has for a very long time.

(33,327 posts)who has been drinking our milkshake for years. He's a stone cold old-school Conservative asshole, and he knows what he's doing, more than any other Repuke (and most Dems) in DC.
He has mastered the Senatorial art of saying absolutely nothing while talking at length. Every word is calibrated to absolve his party of responsibility for the crises they create.
He thwarted most of Obama's agenda, blocked a SCOTUS nominee, and has managed to stack the federal courts with regressive judges that will block progressive legislation for decades after he dies. He'll walk away from this shutdown with something to show for it - not a wall, but some bitter concession from the Dems.
KY will never be able to atone for putting him in the Senate. Rand Paul, either.

(10,270 posts)I'm willing to give credit where it's due. McConnell is a self-serving reptile no doubt, but if anyone were to write a book on Senate Power 20 years from now, both the prolouge AND the epilouge would have Yertles name in it there's no question.
He should NOT be feared (he might actually wind up in prison alongside Trumpy heh), but he absolutely should be respected for the kind of parlemantarian Shiva-God of destruction that he IS.
But Nancy's got his number.
