" Pelosi remains defiant on wall funding as Trump seeks fresh talks "

...like a breath of fresh air...no more attacks on Obamacare, Medicaid...no gunning for Social Security, Medicare...I can finally take a deep breath...but only one....

...have you been following New Horizons, Ultima Thule?
………………………

Johns Hopkins, Physics Lab, 2019

" Ultima Thule is located in the Kuiper belt in the outermost regions of the Solar System, beyond the orbit of Neptune. In the early morning of January 1st 2019 Eastern Time, NASA's New Horizons spacecraft will fly by Ultima Thule at a distance of 3500 km (2200 miles). At this time, Ultima Thule will be at a distance of almost 6.5 billion km (4 billion miles) from the Sun, making this the most distant planetary flyby that has yet been attempted, and the first time that a Solar System object of this type has been seen close-up.

...do you mean to tell me that we can travel 4 billion miles to look at rock with our technology, but we need a medieval wall to protect us, because we can't secure our southern border with our technology?

...I think Nancy should hang in there; hang tough...what do you think?

Trump, the Democrats, the Shutdown and the Wall

Compare the Clinton-Gingrich shutdown battle in the fall of 1995. Bill Clinton refused to sign a budget championed by Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich that would have reduced taxes on the wealthy and raised Medicare premiums by almost the same amount. From the public’s standpoint, the cost-benefit calculation was clearly on Clinton’s side, and he won the battle.

But if the battle now is seen as opening the government vs. paying $5 billion for the wall, and if the Democrats appear utterly intransigent on the issue, and indifferent to border security, Trump could win the political battle. That’s something the Democrats should worry about.

And in fairness lots of Conservatives do believe that we don't care about border security, particularly among the Trump Base. But I agree that it is a weak part of the argument - because it doesn't matter what actions democrats take, they are still going to lie about the "threat" from the south and our weakness on "standing up for America."
