I have noticed the decline in quality from stores like Gap and Gymboree and Old Navy. It feels so tired, nothing innovative and stand out. I used to shop at Gymboree because their swim suits and PJs were pretty special and it was a splurge. I went shopping for a gift last year and they are nothing special anymore. The whole retail scene seems like H&M clones and tons of Disney logos. I really wasn't surprised to hear they are having trouble. when I went for gifts I ended up buying Target gift cards since I couldn't find anything special in the mall.
Gymboree is closing it's lower end store but keeping it's higher end stuff. Seems to be all we will be left with, nothing in the middle.

(6,661 posts)I thought they were way overpriced other than their sales. I got stuff at Target that was just as cute for half the price. I haven't shopped at a Gap in years--once again, overpriced for what you get. Old Navy is pretty good, though.

(1,765 posts)I have shopped at Gap during sales and clearance and paid a ton less than at Old Navy. The same thing with Banana Republic which is the same company. With that said I do like Old Navy as well.

It is such a shame to see something special turn into meh.
