Pelosi on postponing SOTU: "It's not constitutionally required. It's not the President's birthday."

Craig Caplan @CraigCaplan

Pelosi on rescheduling Jan 29th SOTU Address: "It is not a sacred date. It's not constitutionally required. It's not the President's birthday. It's not anything. It is a date that we agreed to. It could have been the week later and it could be a week later if gov't is open."

That is what we need. That will do EVERYTHING!!!

I agree. There is something to be said for having new representatives and new, young fresh enthusiasm in government. We need people who are fired up and ready to charge in and do the hard work. But in a position as powerful as Speaker of the House, we needed Pelosi, who can get fired up, but also has the skill and savvy to focus her fire and who knows the rules backwards and forwards, and who knows how to play the game of politics.

There were things with which I disagreed with Pelosi on in her last tenure as Speaker, but she is certainly playing this situation almost perfectly.

Not the "sources say Trump is furious" stories that come out, but the actual physical reactions. The little vein popping out on the side of his head. The gritting to the point of breaking those false teeth. The ripping stuff up and throwing it around. The cursing.

Does that make me a bad person?

Only because it is needed to replace the old blood when it is gone. But new blood isn't any good if it doesn't have the antibodies to fight off infections. And not all blood is up to the job.

The old blood has an army of white blood cells that has developed over a period of time. It works smarter and at full force.

Amazing to think about how some wanted to choose someone else to be Speaker. So much hand-wringing about wanting "new blood" or "someone younger" ... basically they wanted change for the sake of change. What a short-sighted mistake that would have been! Especially NOW.

It's like a spoiled brat being denied a birthday party, the biggest birthday party.

The big difference is that he's hurting people and institutions with his tantrum.

Speaker Pelosi recognizes the behavior and goads him with that birthday remark. He has no privilege to the attention he craves from the SOTU; it's not his due.
