This is why he is desperate to get the $5.7 (formerly $5.6) billion.....

Last edited Sat Jan 19, 2019, 01:37 PM - Edit history (1)

Roman Abramovich....

Mr. Abramovich, a Russian national with Israeli citizenship, is an ally of Russian president Putin, and a personal friend of Donald Trump and his son in law. Mr. Abramovich is part owner (with several other Russian billionaires) of a steel company called Evraz - located in Canada - which, coincidentally, is the only one which can manufacture the specific type of metal beams Mr. Trump wants for his wall. (There was a Chinese company which could deliver the same product, but since Mr. Trump's trade war with China, they can no longer effectively provide it to the US.)

If the wall is built, Mr. Abramovich's company - in which Russian president Putin also happens to own stock through a complicated series of shell companies - stands to make roughly one billion US dollars during the first stage of construction alone. By the time the wall is completed, with costs estimated to run to almost 30 billion dollars (not 5 billion as the Republican parrots have been squawking), Evraz will likely triple in value.

This is of interest to Mr. Abramovich and his partners no doubt, since Evraz took a signifcant stock hit in early 2016, losing roughly 60% of its value....during the months leading up to the American Presidential Election.

Mr. Abramovich also owns a legendary yacht called the Eclipse, valued at roughly half a billion dollars.

Mr. Trump has been known to enjoy vacations on the yacht. One can safely assume the yacht has beautiful staterooms, with beds.

And showers.

And likely, given Mr. Abramovich's well-reported paranoia, there are plenty of security cameras in place....

Mr. Abramovich applied for Swiss residency some time ago, but was blocked by their government because of tangible evidence that he was involved in money laundering.

This is all public record. And it was presented to the media during the 2016 Election, when the press was slavering over Mrs. Clinton's emails and calling her "Killery".

Government projects require bids from at least three sources, and these are in response to an RFP, or Request for Proposal. These proposals specify a number of the variables (materials, etc.) required. To specify that particular steel means that some engineer knew that the Canadian (or Chinese) company is the only one that can make it. That is generally frowned upon and has been the cause of many lawyers making money.

And, if this were a movie or novel, it would mean that someone in the admin would be in serious trouble with the Russians.

The plot thickens.

Whoever that is, they had better be correct. Sole source purchases of this type can be contested, which really throws a monkey wrench into the production schedule. That also can cost the government a lot of money...as you said....attorneys making money.

However, since the so-called President has already declared this as an emergency need, I'm not sure the regular procurement laws will have to be followed. That's a pretty big loophole.

Just a quick google of this confirms some of the story. He has very close ties to not only trump but the kids as well, and he has very very very close ties to putin, and he owns a canadian steel empire.

The only part I couldn't confirm is the sourcing of the steel trump is spec'ing to him.

BUT, I'm sure specific sanction language could be added to any appropriation bill, forbidding the use of any steel sourced from his operations (regardless of seller or country of origin).

In fact, a raft of sanctions could be added to the biils, adding significant pain to tiny's overlords.

Their website does no even mention steel beams. Most of their products are flat plate and pipe. They also make railroad rails. Rails are made of manganese steel, which is a common material. The thing that makes me disregard is the statement they are likely to make a billion. It conflates gross and net, which is seems to be the standard for FB.

Here is the report: http://www.annualreports.com/HostedData/AnnualReportArchive/E/LSE_EVR_2015.pdf

But it is hard to find anything mentioning BEAMS and Evraz....it's almost as if it was scrubbed.

But yeah they are very proud of the business they do in the US...at least in the report and they project even more profits from the US in the coming years.

And Evra did a tidy little profit when Traitor Trump reopened the Keystone pipeline so their is precedent for this.

And Evra has factories in the US so, they can claim it is American steel...though Canada is American too.

The wall wasn't going to be made of steel until Pootie told him to change it. Quid pro quo.

Edited to add this: remember when Cheeto originally said it was going to be made with US-made steel? I can't say when that was, but it had to be early in his Presidency. Suddenly he stopped saying "US materials," just like that. It makes me realize that this was in the works longer than a few months.

1. Abramovich, was permitted by Putin to sell his oil company for $13 billion in 2005 to a Russian State firm. In 2008, he received a $1.8 billion, Russian tax payer funded, loan from Putin's, US sanctioned, VEB bank to bail out his co-owned global steel/mining company, EVRAZ.
BREAKING: UK has not renewed Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich‘s visa. https://www.ft.com/content/32eb170a-5c2a-11e8-ad91-e01af256df68
UK has not renewed Roman Abramovich’s visa
Oligarch and owner of Chelsea football club returns to Russia

2. Side Note 1 - In 2007, Abramovich and his Russian partners paid an estimated $3 billion to purchase three steel plants in the US, (Oregon, Colorado, and Delaware) and five steel plants in Canada (Alberta and Saskatchewan).

3. EVRAZ's US Claymont Steel plant closed on Dec. 2013, just three months before the US/EU imposed Ukrainian related sanctions against Russia. Claymont, Delaware is the boyhood home of VP Joe Biden, the Obama Administration's 2013-2016 public champion of Ukraine's revolution.

4. In Feb 2014, Russia invades Crimea; In April 2014, Abramovich warns the Ukraine crisis could hit its EVRAZ owned Ukraine businesses. Between 2014-2018, EVRAZ sells all of its Ukrainian held corporate assets.

5. In one of his first actions, President Trump, changed his 'Buy American Steel' campaign pledge to allow EVRAZ produced Canadian steel pipes to be used in the Keystone XL Pipeline. In addition, Conrad Winkler,

6. Chief Executive of EVRAZ North America, attended President Trump's March 2018 Steel Tariffs meeting at the White House. Between 2013-2018, EVRAZ has spent nearly $2 million lobbying Congress/Commerce Dept. against National Defense Authorization Act, "Buy American Provisions".

7. Side note 2 - Abramovich is classed as second on the Coal Dirty Dozen list. The Russian EVRAZ Raspadskaya Coal complex produces 1.5GT of carbon emission, which is not far off of Russia's overall annual carbon emissions output.

8. Side Note 3 - Abramovich has a personal and philanthropic relationship with Jared and Ivanka Trump. He hosted Jared and Ivanka at his home in Moscow in early 2014. /END

Interesting that Roman Abramovich's spokesperson denied in August 2018 any US lobbying activities but it's well documented that his co-owned steel company, #Evraz North America has spent millions lobbying Congress, DoD, and Commerce against US buy American provisions.

Colorado taxpayers should be cautious. Russian oligarch and "Putin fixer" Roman Abramovich's Evraz played a similar corporate game with its Claymont, Delaware steel plant that closed in 2013. Agreements with Evraz aren't always what they seem.

Alex Van Der Zwaan's archived Skadden profile says he represented "the Evraz Group S.A. in relation to their holdings in mining assets in Ukraine." Evraz is owned by Ivanka & Jared's close friend Roman Abramovich, a Russian billionaire close to Putin. Van Der Zwaan also
successfully represented Abramovich during the Berezovsky trial in the UK.

Vekselberg, Blavatnik, Alfa Bank Execs, and others were introduced to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner during a 2014 Moscow charity event, hosted by Roman Abramovich. Alfa bank loaned Abramovich's EVRAZ NA Steel Company $200M in 2015. #TrumpCrimeFamily

According to ProPublica, Roman Abramovich's co-owned steel & mining Company, EVRAZ S.A., spent more than 1.3 million dollars lobbying Congress, Commerce, EPA, and the US Trade Representative. Lobbying intensified after 2013 Ukraine uprising and continues into first quarter 2018.

The largest steel gas line pipe makers in North America are Russian owned. Namely Roman Abramovich’s, Evraz and Anton Chubais,TMK IPSCO. Abramovich and Chubais were Yeltsin loyalist but we're both key players in bringing Putin to power.

Roman Abramovich’s, Evraz recently threatened to close its Pueblo, Colorado steel plant and open a new plant in an unnamed US southern city unless Colorado meets its energy supply (coal) demands. Recently, President Trump tweeted that new steel plants will soon be built in US.

Roman rebuilds his Russian empire
Helped by his political clout, Chelsea's billionaire owner is buying a steel firm back home, and perhaps the UK's Corus, writes Oliver Morgan.
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2006/jun/04/theobserver.observerbusiness10

A 2006 Guardian article accurately predicts Roman Abramovich's strategy, in collaboration with Putin, to purchase Evraz and use it as a platform to secure control over global energy exploitation, extraction, and transportation.

It has to do with opening US public and private lands to fracking and other natural resource/mineral extraction. There are billions in play and the Russian oligarchs who own the US extraction, heavy industries, and mining technologies are key to the plan. #plasmafracking, #Evraz

Roman Abramovich is a controlling investor in a Texas fracking Company, Propell. Propell and its sister company, Novas own the US/Canadian patents for this technology. Plasma fracking is Russian developed and could be used throughout the US--offering billions in future revenue.

After his UK visa denial, Roman Abramovich obtained Israeli citizenship. He reportedly is investing heavily in nano technology research at a prestigious Israeli University.

Reportedly to obtain immunity, from acts committed during Russia's Aluminum Wars, Abramovich was elected in 2000, the Governor of Chukotka. Such RS Government immunity is similar to Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh's opinion that sitting US presidents are immune from prosecution.
