Don Shipley (outs fake military) mentioned DU

In his latest YouTube video.

I follow him because I enjoy his outing of fake navy seals. But last night he posted one about Nathan Phillips where he mentions Democratic Underground in the opening.

I won't post a link because some might find it as right wing talking points. I just found it odd he mentions DU?

Not sure as most of his videos are non political.

The video basically goes into media referring to Phillips as a (Vietnam war veteran) he defended philips in part as he himself never used words himself.

“He defended Phillips in part as he himself never used words himself.”

I’m familiar with Shipley , but what does that sentence mean?

2. It means that Phillips himself never called himself a Vietnam war veteran

That he was identified as such by some in the media, but he himself never used those words to describe himself.

It seems that he used the phrase "Vietnam era veteran" and/or "Vietnam times veteran" which would be accurate since he was in the military during that era/time. Some news outlets (like the Washington Post) erroneously reported that he had fought in the Vietnam War. In the case of the Washington Post, a correction was eventually issued.

I watched again Shipley has a way of belittling some but I honestly believe he was just pointing out a fact. Plus it entertained me he was reading DU for some reason.

No doubt he’s a trumpet, but I enjoy his videos. Especially the interactions with his wife.

swabby who rear ended vehicle stopped in the road. The friend goes into the windshield taking a face full of glass bits. He goes off to a civilian hospital, the driver reports in and doesn't mention my friend. My friend came back a day or two later face full of stitches and bandage, reports and gets charged with "UA" (unauthorized leave) because he returned in uniform, and had to stand a Mast. If they had picked him up or he had come in out of uniform he'd have been charged with AWOL and possibly Court Martialed.

My B-in-Law went AWOL around the same time from Minot AFB. He got picked up was Court Martialed, put his shit into one sock and then put 15 years in the AF. One goof up doesn't mean everything.

17. Your friend that went to the civilian hospital didn't think to call his immediate superior?

The base? Officer of the day? Ask the doctor to call?

When I was in the AF, I’d have found a way to contact someone. I’d have been terrified to be thought AWOL.

not everybody getting a telephone in their one day in a hospital room. He thought a police report, hospital papers and a face full of stitches and gauze might have been the key. That's what I thought myself when I ran into him and heard the lowdown. At least he didn't loose pay, rank or get the brig.

Anyways, you Airboys had tougher discipline than we salts did. Did not want to be a Gyrine or an Airboy.

bugging out bit. Why is a non military pacifist so interested in whether a PoC's classification is as Viet Vet or Viet Era Vet? We all went where we were ordered. I was riding a boomer and none of us were listed as a Viet Vet. Do you think as a submariner (a 100% volunteer force) I was shirking my duty as opposed to 90% of Viet Vets who were ordered to station?

I'm trying to understand your concern that anybody who went in (AWOL or not) somehow doesn't have the standing to stand up to a group of documented demonstrably racist school boys. Maybe he realized a pacifist bend in himself and went AWOL?
