AOC lectures Sarah Huckabee Sanders on the Bible after White House demands leaving climate change...

...to God

“I don’t think that we are going to listen to her on much of anything, particularly anything that we will leave into the hands of a much, much higher authority,” Sanders said, presumably referring to God. “And certainly not listen to the freshman congresswoman on when the world may end.”

?

You shouldn’t need a Bible to tell you to protect our planet, but it does anyway.

When it comes to the teachings of Jesus, I could find very little if anything that I would oppose. The Old Testament is all over the with one contradiction after another. God, supposedly calling for the wiping out entire tribes, including killing even little boys in Numbers is revolting. I have about the same or less respect for the Koran.

God's Grandeur
By Gerard Manley Hopkins

The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

We are on a space ship that had a finite amount of everything. The more we use up through abuse, the closer to death we come. Our planet does recycle, for example, the roughly three trillion trees on Earth recycle CO compounds into O2.

Chucklebee was ordained before there was an "on-line."

It doesn't take much to be ordained as a Baptist minister. Any Church has the authority to ordain. Most Churches (especially smaller ones) will ordain based on nothing more than the statement that the prospective minister has "heard the call." Chucklebee was an ordained minister while he was an undergraduate student.

From sixty-odd years in Baptist Churches, I can tell you that being an ordained Baptist minister is no guarantee of a working knowledge of scripture.

is her fighting style is quite effective for a couple of reasons:

1. She never insults her enemies

2. She always uses their own words in her responses

3. She attacks what they say with the same sources, such as the Bible if they’re claiming to be speaking for god.

4. She beats them thoroughly with their own ignorance

5. She never, ever gets on the defensive or over explains her stand.

6. She gives no room for any argument to her response.

7. She never breaks a sweat.

8. No one responds to her responses

45. "risky"?
Thu Jan 24, 2019, 02:31 PM
Jan 2019

Risky of what? Overstating a compliment for a Democratic rep on a moderated Democratic web site? Even if it was made in more a manner of speech than a factual dissertation? ie..."NurseJackie ALWAYS uses ROLFs as a defense" Its a generalization to make a point. Competent readers can separate the two.

First off, "boasting" is properly used as something one says about oneself. One can't really 'boast' for someone else, unless one is implying they had a part in the boastable success of the other person.

Second, back to the "risky". I am assuming that this great risk, on this board, is that you or someone else will make a note and when they find AOC one time "break a sweat" for instance, you will quote them and expose their lazy assumptions from this thread.

Why such a veiled threat on a Democrat message board against a member that is only trying to praise a Democratic rep, no matter how clumsy you think it was done? I don't get it

Its a generalization to make a point.
No it's not. It's an "exaggeration".

more a manner of speech than a factual dissertation?
Does this mean that facts aren't important any more?

Competent readers can separate the two.
And competent writers can too.

One can't really 'boast' for someone else,
Sure one can. I boast about Nancy Pelosi all the time. I boast about our local high-school football team. (The great care being taken to split-hairs on such things lets me know the very weak position of the rebuttal that's being made.)

I am assuming that this great risk,
Actually, I never said that.

Why such a veiled threat on a Democrat message board against a member
Nobody is making threats. But someone IS making false accusations. I've threatened nobody.

I don't get it
Perhaps someday that will change. I remain hopeful.

Thu Jan 24, 2019, 03:27 PM
Jan 2019

Wouldn't you have to have your own proof before you make that claim?

Which of the points do you think are exaggerated?

Facts are important. But generalizing to make a point is also a part of the English dialect. "I always eat too much at a buffet" doesn't mean you ALWAYS do that, and I can't believe I have to explain this, it means you do it too many times for your own liking, and you say it in a kind of self reproachment in order to perhaps change your behaviour in the future.

For instance, saying AOC " always uses their own words in her responses" was said, I assume, because that is what they have seen from her in past responses when in the same position, in every case they have seen. But that inference I'm sure they do not necessarily think will have to be up to professional journalistic standards on a political message board, and also would assume that readers of that post would know that as well). It is not a special council investigation, at least it shouldn't be. its a generalization based on past behavior, done in an honest effort to praise her abilities.

But more than all of that.....behind all that, it is just puzzling... why? Why do feel the need to step on a post that is all about the love. A post who's only purpose is praising a Democratic rep? And if it wasn't a veiled threat please explain what you meant by "risky" then. Who is going to enact the consequence of that 'risk'?

I still don't get it. But sure, I also remain hopeful

HA! Sorry... not going to fall for that. It's obvious to anyone who's paying close enough attention. There's no need for me to spell it out or spoon-feed anyone.

English dialect.
Or, English idioms?

and you say it in a kind of self reproachment in order to perhaps change your behaviour in the future.
rapprochement? (And it's still an exaggeration not a generalization.)

For instance, saying AOC " always uses their own words in her responses" was said, I assume, because that is what they have seen from her in past responses when in the same position, in every case they have seen.
I can't get this emotional about it.

Who is going to enact the consequence of that 'risk'?
I do not know. I cannot predict the future.

And if it wasn't a veiled threat please explain what you meant by "risky" then.
I've said all I have to say about that. From this point forward, you're on your own. Good luck!

You got me. I"m a Russian mole. I am playing the long game. Every 20 posts or so, I "accidentally on purpose" make the mistake of using the singular term for a person of the Democratic party, as the name of the party itself. Gradually I am increasing this usage, until one, then two, then a hundred DUers start accepting that kind of devolution of party's name. Until finally, after years of effort, everyone on here has forgotten the original proper name of their party, and are lost and wandering around and decide they might as well be Republicans because at least its easier to use their party labeling. ie. you can be a Republican, and be part of the Republican party! It's the exact same word. Much easier.
