McConnell Tries To Frame Recess Appointment As 'Arrogance' Against American People

IMAGINE . . . the very man who has blocked President Obama's nomination of former Ohio attorney general Richard Cordray to the consumer protection bureau from even receiving a vote in the U.S. Senate has the gall to accuse the President of 'arrogance' against the American people in deciding to appoint him anyway today.

Senate Minority Leader McConnell said in a statement Wednesday that Mr. Obama, “in an unprecedented move, has arrogantly circumvented the American people.”

If anything, it's merely a move to put the Senator in his place. The President has the authority under the U.S. Constitution to make such an appointment, bypassing a reticent Congress. His predecessor, Bush, exercised that authority many more times than this president without a peep from the minority leader. McConnell should demonstrate more regard for the intelligence of the American people and just admit he's been served.

some of them said outright, we have no problem with Cordray, we just don't like this agency and we're blocking Cordray to undermine the agency. An agency which was created by Congress, by the way.

Obama mentioned that in his statment, he says if you don't like the agency, then pass legislation to get rid of it.

Let's see...Republicans are four square against the formation of something called the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and they're making accusations that this move (very precedented, by the way) goes against the will of the American people. It's going to take a special kind of moronic Republican voter to swallow this line. Oh wait, we already have that kind of Republican voter. They're called The Base.

he's an idiot. If anything it's just drawing attention to the fact that the President is trying to do something to protect consumers. But I guess he's talking to the people that would be against it no matter what and just giving them another talking point.

selling Obama's moves to ensure consumer protection as "arrogant circumvention of the American people".

If he and his fellow Repubs don't like the CFPB let them make that case to the American people and get them to support repealing the agency by an act of Congress. They didn't have any real objection to Cordray anyway. They just were trying to circumvent the financial reform law because their corporate masters told them to (and because they hate Obama too). He needs to STFU about "the American people" and what he thinks they want b/c it's clear he doesn't know.

The absolute worst piece of crap ever appointed to a diplomatic post. But then, he was like a dream for the corrupted and slimy policies of the right.

the arrogance against the American people lies with the Republicans' refusal to staff the people's consumer protection agency.
