(24,160 posts)This shouldn't surprise you.
There will always be that segment of the electorate who will follow just about any nonsense, no matter how absurd.

(112,980 posts)Some polls divide between "approve" and "strongly approve." The "strongly approve" people have been a much smaller percentage; they are the hopeless hard-core. The others are likely to be lukewarm GOPers whose support is mostly based on party loyalty.

Your results are in direct proportion to the money spent.

(6,916 posts)Bring back the Fairnesa Doctrine and the presidents approval would be lower than Nixons lowest: 10% instead of 35%.
The difference is brainwashing from Fox and Limbaugh.

(6,642 posts)Democrats have to get up off their asses and vote. Always. In every election.
Life ain't fair. You've got to face the fact that bigotry in America isn't a bug. It's a feature.

Thats why his approval rating matters.

(3,115 posts)Is the same pack of fucking idiots who've made an empire for the Kartrashians. This reality television shit really means something to these idiots, sadly. That's why they bought the image of the Apprentice "billionaire" Dump lock, stock and barrel.
Oh, yeah. Also the Russians and the nonstop Reich-Wing screaming machine. And alien-faced Mark Zuckerberg who is richer than rich but still can't turn down a few rubles, even if it means selling out his country.
The quest for power is one fucked-up drug.

Only those of us who live in the rural or red state areas seem to grasp the seriousness of the matter.
Something must be done about hate media's violent propaganda spewed so long now that it's effects are multigenerational.

Trump doesn't have anything that calamitous hurting his numbers - he's really only weighed down by his repulsiveness as a human being.

(11,397 posts)There is a segment of the population that is predisposed or at least has had a familial pattern of authoritarianism. They are typically risk adverse, have a more active amygdala, and other factors that encourage a reliance on authority. Those people typically become conservative in their political ideology. Add to that an entire information ecosystem which feeds into those impulses by reporting information that confirms their fears and beliefs.

(14,565 posts)That is the bottom line. I have two relatives and several friends who qualify. A few neighbors.
They turn out the news at times like this, other than FOX. You'll never get any of them to sour on Donald Trump. Just the opposite. They champion him at every opportunity.
I post on many sports sites. In recent days and weeks they have been listing Trump's so-called accomplishments. I got warned by administrators on one college football site when I mocked the Trump clan and posted the devastating realities.
Last week I attended an LPGA/celebrity golf tournament in Orlando. There were MAGA hats all over the place. I overheard a few of the celebrities boosting Trump...primarily baseball players and also one country music star. Every time I attend a golf tournament it is a jolt toward how the older white crowd is steadfast behind Trump. I really wish our strategists had attended some golf tournaments in spring 2016, as I did. They would have walked out of there stunned, and not taken any of those midwestern states for granted.
37% is fine. He can't win from there, even if the actual exit poll approval would be at least 3% higher. In fact, that's a good way to gauge things. Take the 538 compilation and add 3%. That's what Trump's approval among the electorate would be if the election were held today. Overall approval is lower than among people who will show up.
