*strongly anti-abortion
*strongly anti-homosexuality
*unwavering belief in 'young earth creationism'
*white, white, white
[slacktivist shows in many posts how Evngelicalism was developed to bolster white supremacy!]

I'm not any kind of a subscriber to Christianity, but I've spent my entire life in a "Catholic environment" (Chicagoland). Aside from the hardcore anti-abortion crowd, the majority of Catholics in my orbit are moderate people who believe in the words and deeds attributed to Jesus. And yes, they are all upset with the clergy sexual abuse (pedophilia) scandals, and other problems within their church. They do good things for their communities, and as Catholics are taught, they believe in working toward social justice.
For the life of me, I can't understand why American Catholics don't pull back from The Vatican, and form a new, moderate version of their church for the future.

(145 posts)Psychological studies show that conservative leaning people experienced much more fear at early stages of development then more liberal leaning folks. It was actually a European study. It seems that most Christian based belief systems rule the masses by fear. Add to that the white supremest movement and it makes perfect sense.

(16,093 posts)In 312 C.E., Constantine, on the night before the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, dreamed that Christ was instructing him to place His sign (a monogram combining X and P, the first letters of Christs name) on the soldiers shields. For the first time, the symbol of Christ, the Prince of Peace, become one with the instruments of death, war, and conquest.

(13,485 posts)the sun god at the time. The story of the vision and dream before the Milvian bridge battle was added years later by his biographer Eusebius when it was important to solidify Constantine's power over the masses through the chosen monotheistic religion (Christianity). There's a monument that was built right after the battle that depicts the battle's progression. It starts with Sol Invictus, then there's another Sol Invictus in the middle of the battle and it ends with a meeting of Sol Invictus with Constantine. No dream, no Christ, no sign, no vision. Eusebius admitted to making "medicinal fictions" for the sake of Christ and the church.
I could say a lot more about Constantine but this is enough. He was not a nice man... oops Saint.
That's not to take away from the loving Christ becoming a weapon of war, it's just to add that Christianity became a weapon of war and of politics even from its inception.

37 Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?

(23,156 posts)The religious right that is subservient to drumpf is not in the least bit Christian in the meaning shown in the Bible. They are haters who use religion to prop themselves and their egos up because otherwise they'd have to face the emptiness inside of nothing but greed nd hate. Their "religion" isn't about religion, but about hate for the others and joining together with like minded haters. Best proof of this - the gleeful, vicious way these self-styled Christians reacted to babies being thrown in cages and sent off to some "foster" home with no tracking of where they went and no plans to ever reunite them with the parents from whom they were stolen. For all we know, they were sold to child sex slavers, like drumpf used to hang with. No proof of that, but then we have no idea where those hundreds of children disappeared to.

(25,816 posts)I have had many migrants pass through my land. I have fed them and clothed them.
Once when I was adding a room to the house two guys showed up and I put them to work with me, then bacon and eggs, a few brews, and a ride to the river.
It's pretty hard to get north from here. There are BPatrol stops on every road north.
Two years ago in St David, Az., a Mormon town past the stops, a young man walked
out of the trees. Hungry and thirsty, he had walked around the stops. He said he
lived in N. Carolina, worked at a furniture factory and had gone home to Mexico for his
father's funeral. He offered 5,000 dollars for a ride to N.C. I knew who to call,
and in a half hour he was on his way home. He wasn't lying.
Come to think of it, I never saw a dime.....
The most touching time was when I walked out early and saw over a dozen migrants
walking quietly through the trees. One young woman carried a small baby. They looked at
me, with sorrow and fear in their eyes. I don't know what happened to them.
The number of migrants is much lower than it was back then.
