NY Times reporter tweeting that Northam will claim it was NOT HIM in the photo

NEWS: Northam is calling Va Dems and telling them that’s *not* him in the yearbook photo and he will make a statement this afternoon to say the same. In other words, he is NOT quitting as of right now.

Story TK

The governor has also been calling his former med school classmates to jog their memories. He does NOT think he is the man in Klan hood or blackface and doesn’t want to resign before trying to determine who is in that photo.

If you’re not sure whether it’s you in the photo, then you know you’ve posed in such an outfit - whether for that particular photo or not - and you can’t claim the moral high ground.

On Northam’s senior page? I graduated school at about the same time, I selected a photo and quotation for my yearbook. Assuming Northam picked the photo, does it matter who was in it? What was the yearbook staff thinking when it exercised editorial discretion the photo was allowed? What does it say about the school’s administration that surely had veto power.

Different, I think, from a high school or college yearbook in terms of senior pages and school administration involvement and the like. Though one would think the medical school would not want photos like that associated with their school.

There are a lot of people who review a book from its inception until it finally goes to print. NOBODY stopped to say, “hey wait a minute... this doesn’t seem right...?”

Even giving him the benefit of the doubt, did he not allow that picture to be part of his section in the yearbook?

Why was he nicknamed with the name "co*nman" from the Virginia Military Institute?

Not buying it

I have no idea if my college published a year book or not. And even if I had known about a year book I would not have purchased it.

I'm just saying that maybe it's not him and he didn't even know it existed.

His people pushed him to make a statement. Maybe he even said that's not me but those around him thought that could backfire. After having a several hours to process it, he decides that he's not taking responsibility for something he didn't do.

Regardless, his political future--unless he can quickly explain who is in the picture--may be over. He has not handled this well at all.

Anyone who dressed in either of those outfits would damn sure well remember doing so for the rest of their lives...

Yeah, this rings hollow.
