Who was hit with a nasty ice storm?

Schools are out again tomorrow, even the local university that never calls off. That will be three days without classes. The roads are a thick sheet of ice and everyone has been warned once again not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. Tonight the temps are dropping and last I heard we might have snow this weekend.

I hope everyone is doing better than we are!

We've had ice building up for two days now. Tree limbs breaking off makes it sound like gun shots. Just scattered power outages.....so far.

Caroga Lake in the Adirondacks and she taught school 45 minutes away. In the winter the Lake would freeze, pipes froze, roads too icy to travel on.. it was a nightmare at times.

I lived further down the mountains so it wasn't as bad.. but some winters it was like we were living in a freezer.

Take good care!

if you live here any length of time. We don't have earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes (some small ones in the southern tier) wildfires etc. so a little ice and snow is bearable. The Adirondack mountains are a little different from the flatlands I live in.

It warmed up during the night and rained quite a bit. The ice is off everything now, but we're currently experiencing 30-50 mph winds and it's turning colder by the minute. We have a saying around here, "If you don't like the weather around here just wait a few minutes, it'll change."

Thanks, and have a great day.

I would have thought that the worst was over down in Missouri, and that Spring would be starting by now. Hang in there, stay safe, and keep thinking "Spring"! We're at least two months away from thinking about Spring here!

Jan 12 we had a foot of snow with a quarter inch of ice beneath it. (I know the date exactly because I broke my ankle on that ice!) We've had a few inches since then. Last week we suffered through the vortex. This week was the ice storm. Tonight at midnight we go under another advisory for a winter storm.

Reports in the following clip show a half inch but there were other reports from EMS of up to one inch ice.

That sucks, but I know exactly what you're talking about. I slipped and fell on some ice the other day and now I've developed Sciatica, or at least I think that's what's going on back there.

So this winter has been a real pain, literally and figuratively, for both of us. But these odd weather phenomenon can't be attributed to global warming, because Donald Trump was cold the other day when he should have been warm! Just bad luck I guess.

Take care of yourself, and Spring is just around the corner, for you southern folk anyway. We northerners are going to have a wait a little longer.

We had about an inch of ice coating everything. All the local news agencies have focused on my town because we were the epicenter of action this time.

We had snow, sleet and ice yesterday. Now we are in a deep freeze, -1 at 11:45am. Needless to say, everything has frozen over and the sidewalks and steps are icy. It won't warm up for the foreseeable future, so getting rid of the ice will be difficult.

That's what the newscasters are calling it - loud cracks and thuds on the roof, sounds like someone lobbed a large rock onto the roof. Heard it around 8 or 9 times last night, and I have to say I don't like it one damn bit.

We got 9-10 inches overnight and it's hovering just below freezing. Not a big deal in some areas, but for Seattle, ugh, it's a real mess.

We don't have much of a fleet of plows or sand trucks, so only the main arterials get maintained, and 15-20% grades are not uncommon for streets here. Better to just stay home!

I moved to Overland Park, KS, a suburb of Kansas City, MO, in 1990. For the first five or so years there we could count on five or six ice storms each winter. Not fun. Climate change meant fewer ice storms.

I moved from there to New Mexico some ten years ago, and I probably don't need to say that I simply don't experience ice storms here. For what it's worth, we've had a very snowy winter, which means the Santa Fe Ski Basin is doing very well. But in Santa Fe itself, while we've had more snow than usual, it has not presented any real problems. For which I'm quite grateful.

We haven't had much of a winter in several years but this year so far has been a doozy.

And I know OP very well. I usually head over there for the Asian markets.
