Brett Kavanaugh proved Sen. Susan Colins to be a fucking liar!

.

If the allegation(s) of him participating in Rape Trains is anywhere near true, then he would have also dodged one or more possible pregnancies too. It sure seems unfair for a bro to subject other bros to possible Rape Train pregnancies. That wouldn't be very bro-like. Nope, not one bit. But, as everyone knew... Sen. Susan Collins is an opportunistic liar.

Once upon a time, Susan Collins, the Republican Senator from Maine, announced her plans to vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court -- and, in doing so, explained that he was definitely not a threat to reproductive rights because of how very much he loved precedent. She assured us all that she would never, ever vote for someone whom she believed was a threat to Roe v. Wade.

There has also been considerable focus on the future of abortion rights based on the concern that Judge Kavanaugh would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade. Protecting this right is important to me. To my knowledge, Judge Kavanaugh is the first Supreme Court nominee to express the view that precedent is not merely a practice and tradition, but rooted in Article 3 of our Constitution itself. He believes that precedent is not just a judicial policy, it is constitutionally dictated to pay attention and pay heed to rules of precedent. In other words, precedent isn't a goal or an aspiration. It is a constitutional tenet that has to be followed except in the most extraordinary circumstances.

Because really, who can say that just because a guy allegedly tried to rape someone once, or because he has a history of voting against reproductive rights, that he's going to actually vote to overturn Roe v. Wade?
.
.
Writing the dissent, however, was none other than Brett "Definitely Not A Threat To Our Reproductive Rights" Kavanaugh -- which you can read here. His dissent hinges on his belief that the admitting privileges statute will not impact the ability of women and others in the state to access abortion, or impede doctors from performing them. Which would be odd, considering that this is the entire point of this kind of legislation. It's particularly difficult for abortion providers to get admitting privileges, largely because many hospitals are Catholic hospitals and simply won't give it to them.

If you will notice, at no point in his dissent does Kavanaugh explain why he thinks requiring hospital admitting privileges is a good or important thing. He has no idea and neither does anyone else. Literally no one can explain why this would be at all helpful, or why they are not requiring the same thing of other doctors who do not work out of hospitals. A person is 40 times more likely to die from a colonoscopy than an abortion, and yet for some reason there is no major push to require gastroenterologists to have admitting privileges anywhere. Gee, I wonder why that might be?

Sen. Collins has demonstrated that she is a remarkably poor judge of a person's character. Every time she goes to bat for some shady character, that character's worst traits come out. Collins should quit trying to make silk purses out of sow's ears.

she got a ton of donations - not necessarily from her constituents. Most of them were from out of state.

I'll see if I can find a link to the article.

and they have a well funded campaign to hit the ground running.

If Susan Collins weren't so disingenuous, pretending to be a moderate, we could at least understand where she stands. But this namby pamby "moderate" BS is infuriating. If you are going to vote like a POS Republican, then do so proudly!

Just because she's been there a long time doesn't make her any sharper than Louis Gohmert. It's hard to imagine she could be so naïve about Kavanaugh.

Here's what you got right:

It's hard to imagine she could be so naïve about Kavanaugh.

She wasn't naive.

She wasn't misinformed, and she wasn't tricked, or fooled.

She knew exactly what she was doing then, and she knew exactly what she was doing before that, and she knows exactly what she's doing now.

Her whole act goes like this: "Golly, that's a really extreme position...I don't think I, as a moderate, can support that (at least if I want to be reelected). For me to support this, I need somebody to publicly assure me that I shouldn't worry.....when that happen's I'll be all in."

Kavanaugh is the kind of socially conservative dirty political operative the Republicans find so useful in their battle to overthrow liberal democracy. That is why they've been maneuvering him, and others like him, into increasingly powerful positions. He's not hindered by any judicial principle or practice that would come between him and the decision he wants to render, certainly not by respect for precedent.

We don't like this? Just wait for the first direct attack on the "inferred" constitutional right to privacy that protects us from government interference in the private decisions we make about our lives. It's explicitely stated nowhere in the constitution, only inferred by the entire thing. After all, without it, the government could tell us if we could have children at all, and how many. And Kavanaugh's on the court to, among other things, do away with it.

Btw, when people in the media call Collins a "moderate" senator, take names and draw lines through them. All principled Republican senators were purged by the hard right over a decade ago, and those who survived did so by selling out in order to be allowed to stay.
