WH quietly issued statement to Senate, proclaiming right to ignore laws at will.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/11/gop-trump-ignored-khashoggi-report-1164487

Senate Republicans are fuming at President Donald Trump for telling lawmakers he would disregard a law requiring a report to Congress determining who is responsible for the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

...

On Friday, the Trump administration said it reserved the right to decline lawmakers’ demand under the Magnitsky Act that the president report to Congress with a determination of who is responsible for Khashoggi’s October slaying inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

...

Friday’s deadline came and went, with a senior administration official saying Trump “maintains his discretion to decline to act on congressional committee requests when appropriate.”

But don't you worry, the GOP has already vowed retaliation against Trump for breaking the law:

“They owe us a report,” Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) said. “We can make a fuss about it.”

...

Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, was among the first Republicans to criticize the Trump administration for its response. He said he was “deeply troubled” by the administration’s decision not to comply with Congress’ request.

"High crimes and misdemeanors" such as this would have been grounds for the opening of impeachment hearings in the Judiciary Committee within hours of the refusal to comply.

Wanna bet that if Jerry Nadler started noises in that direction, these Republicans who currently find that Trump has crossed over into illegality would suddenly find that he had crossed back over into safe legal territory?

Portman says the Republicans can make a fuss. They can also decide NOT make a fuss, and my bet is that this will turn out to be their course of (in-)action.

And swore to uphold the laws, then now wants to ignore any laws he disagrees with is another step to being a dictator, and if Congress allows this , they are just as corrupt , and complicit. Allowing the rule of law to be ignored by a President will be followed by more ignoring of the rule of laws by trump. He'll use it to pick apart, and divide by doing this to everything he can to undermine this government, and them. If they allow this 2020 election will again deal them severe consequences from the American people by voting trump and all republicans out of OUR government. Again he said the opposite that he was a law and order candidate, but has shown to be nothing but a liar , and a corrupt , and a treasonous criminal.

he's just a thug and criminal. tRump at that rally in El Paso was really promoting hate and violence towards the Democrats. Remember the pipe bombs going to high officials in the Democratic Party. tRump whips those people into such a frenzy with his lies those people act on it.

From now till the election it's going to be rough. And again, they will ask him to tone down the hate, but tRump will not take the blame if something horrendous happens. He likes chaos, hate and division.

that they eliminated the primary-process for the 2020 election to prevent any Republican from challenging Trump for being the republican candidate.

Senate Russiapublicans will make a fuss until they hear from their lord and master, Putin. Then, like the good little purchased, whipped pups that they are, they will roll over and hush.
