In a few hours I will get on a flight back to my home state of CA.
Fox snooze is on bitching about our govenor removing troops from the border.
People sitting around are agreeing with the dolts on Fox.
I want to yell out fuck you like the MAGA guy who had a melt down. I wont, but fuck them anyway.

away from polite Mid westerners.
I call them fascist conformists
They are sitting in front of the tv criticizing my adopted state out loud. I am criticizing them in silence.
On edit:
I was attending a funeral this week. One of the other attendees who lives here asked me my opinion on trumps wall.
She knows I live in CA. I told her it would not work. I told her there were new and more effective ways to have border security.

(18,868 posts)The Trumpers pretty much ignore me. But both the regular waitresses are staunch Democrats. And you just don't know about the folks at the next table.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion but if one of the regular guys gives me a bad time I just quietly tell them to leave me alone.
I am from the Northwest so I don't talk country. People just assume that I am a liberal.
I don't let anyone walk over me.

(4,516 posts)my cousins husband owned it.
He was a staunch conservative. He tried to convert me but he never pressured me. We got along well.
The IRS cought up with him and he owed about a million in back taxes. He committed suicide.
We went to his house every Christmas for awhile.
One year he showed my two sawed off shotguns be bought for his wife (my cousin) and himself for Christmas.
I asked him why and he said it was for when they come. He meant people were going to come and take his wealth.
I did like him very much. He was freindly to me.

(1,822 posts)Last October the hubby and I went to St. Michaels MD for a long weekend. Faux news was on all the TVs. The staff and I were the only brown folks in the place. The hubby is used to me. Just remember Babe we are outnumbered Eventually, I went to the manager and asked them to switch half the TVs to ESPN.
There was no response from my fellow travelers. However, several members of the staff casually made their way to my table and quietly thanked me.

(1,896 posts)Are your sensibilities any less important than the other paying customers? There is tremendous value in letting people know there is diversity of opinion all around-even sitting at the next table. It's why juries work. You never know who is getting in that jury box with you until the deliberations start. Fox stays on the TV-they're all comfy and cozy. Next thing you know they're bad-mouthing old liberal California. It's a short trip down the slippery slope until the racial and ethnic epithets start. Tell the management to turn this crap off or do it yourself. Put on the Weather Channel if you must, but don't let anyone think Fox News is acceptable fare for the general population of constituents.

(1,117 posts)If someone engages you, politely ask Do you know who owns Fox? Do you know what Rupert Murdoch wants? He lies to you to get you to vote for tax cuts for billionaires. And then he laughs at the suckers that watch Fox.
Its very very important for Democrats to talk about Foxs lies- if you do that you can make a big impact.

(41,831 posts)Stuck in the ER for over 24 hours before I was moved up to a better room. While there, all they had to do was the TV. I could access a computer for a few hours but I couldn't remember my passwords, except it seemed for Twitter.. It allowed me to inform JuJu that I was there. Glad to be out, and it wasn't like staying in a hotel, obviously but I hear you about Cable TV...even with 100 channels, I was pretty bored and was in discomfort. (IV's suck!) Bad place to spend a birthday also!

(15,332 posts)I mean, you don't need to rant and rave and curse, but you can speak up. If we don't speak up, these MAGAt's end up with the impression that everybody agrees with them and that they are right as rain.
I used to keep my mouth shut, and I was in the Navy for 30 years. Some people think the military is overwhelmingly Retrumplican, but it's more nuanced than that...BUT it was always the wingnuts that were the loudest.
I started pushing back and voicing my opinions when the Limbaugh saturated brain crew would pontificate about shit that I knew was complete bullshit.
Before you knew it, I had Sailors coming up to me and saying; "thanks, we really didn't know there were folks that felt the same way the we do".
That's the thing. It's not so much for you, or for them (most are so full of rightwing propaganda shit that they are beyond hope), but it is for those who see their opinions getting buried under an onslaught of Faux News misinformation.
Consider it kind of like a vaccine to help inoculate folks and let them know that their opinions can also be reaffirmed.
Push back in ANY setting and you will let folks know that they are not alone in a sea of rightwing bullshit and talking points.

(15,332 posts)they believe in a fantasy invisible wall that is "already being built" for Christ's Sake.
Speaking up is for the people that may be reluctant to. It's important that they know they have an ally, and that not everyone is a flaming asspickle.
I saw it happen at a PTA meeting. Some asshat started pontificating using one of the 3RD Grade Level debate arguments that you know he heard on the "drug-addled, thrice-divorced, buying drugs out of the trunk of a car, paragon of virtues" show.
Every just groaned. I pushed back thoughtfully, but firmly, and the next thing you know, another person pushed back, then another and another.
They really are nothing but vocal bullies. They are used to hearing no alternative facts. They are used to only having their opinions echoed and their egos stroked.
Push back, and they don't know what to do. Especially if you help bring out the other folks in the room and have them engage.
