Akin landed in the middle of a controversy this week after he remarked that women who are the victims of "legitimate rape" can't get pregnant because "the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down." Many of his fellow Republicans joined the ensuing chorus of condemnation, and GOP leaders begged Akin to quit the Missouri Senate race. American Vision, in an article posted on its website and authored by the group's research director, Joel McDurmon, says Republican calls for Akin to step aside are basically like forcing someone to have sex against their will, repeatedly, with numerous perpetratorspolitically-speaking, of course:
We expect leftists, liberals, and other miscreants to pounce opportunistically, to lie, cheat, and twist (all the while drooling) over a phrase like "legitimate rape" when uttered by a strong conservative Christian politician. But should we expect the same from alleged conservatives?......
And this kind of garbage is spreading up here.

(69,059 posts)In fact, as a show of support, they should write-in Aiken on ALL the down-ballot and up-ballot races.

No one has violated Rep. Akin in any way; certainly not his own party. And you know? He could still become senator.

(37,161 posts)Liberals may wish us to believe that no woman would ever stoop so low as to lie about being raped. But this simply does not comport with what we Christians know about fallen human nature. We, conservatives, all agree that millions of women annually conspire to commit murder on their unborn babies. So do you expect me to feel it unacceptable to believe they would lie about why? This is political correctness run amok. Why, after all, would someone willing to kill out of convenience not also lie for various reasons out of convenience?
"millions of women annually conspire to commit murder on their unborn babies". Ponder what goes into a statement like that.
The people driving this movement politically think rape (and the health of the mother; They put that in scare quotes too) are just legalistic dodges so they can "kill for convenience". It's trying to "get off on a technicality", as they put it in 1970's vigilante movies, doubtless so they can go out and "murder" again.
Read through all the caricatures he manages to pack into the couple of excerpts in the MJ article. This guy is living in a fantasy world (which starts straight off with "restore America to its biblical foundation" and then charges headlong further from reality) but he's damned determined to impose his blinkered vision on the rest of us.
Guys like this project like a lighthouse, my fellow "drooling" "miscreants".

(31,706 posts)I'm hoping the fundies are real pissed...send millions to Akin and the "establishment" decides to run a third party candidate. The real story here is yet another big rift developing within the rushpublican party. As I suspected, the Fundies aren't taking a likin' to Akin being tossed under the bus and could decide not to take those church buses to the polls on election day. Rove has to be changing his undies several times a day seeing this going on.
The longer Akin stays in the race the more it will force rushpublicans to take sides. Go against Akin and risk fundies staying home...and this could be critical in House and Senate races.
