Trump Is Now Illegally Promoting His Golf Course As Foreign Policy
Trump is now illegally claiming that his golf course in Scotland is a part of US foreign policy.
Trump is breaking the law
Donald Trump tweeted a commercial for his golf course and wrote about it:

Trumps tweet is a violation of the federal statute that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain. Donald Trump is using his status as president to proclaim a for-profit golf course a part of US foreign policy so that he and his family can profit off of the publicity.
Trump is using the presidency to market his golf course
A private for-profit golf course is not foreign policy. The relationship between the United States and the UK was a strong alliance, so Trumps golf course did nothing to help US foreign policy. The reality is that Trumps Scottish golf course is losing piles of money. The course hasnt been profitable for decades. Trump is using his platform as president to try to make money for his failing business.
Trumps behavior is an abuse of presidential power, and almost as importantly, it serves as confirmation of what Michael Cohen said during his testimony.
Cohen said:
He never expected to win the primary. He never expected to win the general election. The campaign for him was always a marketing opportunity.
Michael Cohen was right. Trump isnt going to govern or lead. He is only here to suck the credibility out of the presidency and turn it into a marketing opportunity for Trump.
This is the type of damage that the current president is doing to our institutions that will take years to remove the Trump stink and restore honor to the Oval Office.

... rare dune ecology that only exists one place in the world? Dunes are made to move w/the wind and his golf course disrupts these actions. He promised Scotland thousands of jobs because of his golf course and I don't think the figure is 100 and 1/2 of those are part time caddies. Scotland should take the land back and give Don back his money.

(11,563 posts)...isn't worth the fluff it blew in on.
Dr Martin Hawtree is a Doctor Of Philosophy, so how that helps in this context is pretty debatable.
He is also either the designer, or one of the designers of the course. I suggest that he has little reason to say anything even slightly negative.
He's also English, which probably loses him more friends in Scotland that it gains. That's neither hear nor they're, though.

(14,173 posts)But you'd think....if it were any nominally decent responsible and patriotic person, if they did surprise themselves and win the Presidency, the grave responsibility would put all of that on hold. At least formally, and officially hand over the business to a family member, who in turn would have nothing to do with government, or even tweeting about any government policy.
But no....Trump thought hmmmm, its not an either or for me. I want both!! My cake and to eat it. A delicious chocolate cake. mmmm He wasn't going to even put on hold his money making projects for the sake of the ethics of his office. And there is no consequences. Can you just imagine if Obama had hired Michelle, or a President H Clinton would have hired her daughter, gave them top secret clearance, and used their office to promote private profits for their families.
Actually it never would have happened so its a moot question. Which is another maddening fact that Republicans know. They know they can get away with it, and we can't.
