She did not say that it would never be on the table.

(26,060 posts)taking Speaker Pelosi out of context? It sure seems that way.
She knows (unlike Seth Abramson, evidently) that convicting Trump can only happen in the Senate.
The Truth Is Here
(354 posts)That is, to me, a vote of no-confidence from the People of the United States.
The 1% in the Senate can do whatever obstruction they care about, because they have a black mark tattooed on their foreheads - Trump Lovers.

(8,008 posts)I don't remember Democrats liking Clinton any less. His approval was high when he left office after his full 2 terms in office.
Look, I'd love the see trump impeached and then convicted.
Problem 1: He'd be impeached. He wouldn't be convicted. Exercise in futility.
Problem 2: In the polarized environment we're in, the RW will characterize the impeachment as a coup attempt. That's not how it should be, but it is. Exercise in futility.
Maybe Pelosi knows something about Mueller's report, upcoming indictments.
Maybe she takes the high road now only to apply the thumbscrews later in various negotiations with the republicans and trump.
Maybe she takes the high road now and changes course when circumstances change.
This is politics as blood sport, and Pelosi seems to have a pretty good grasp on things.

(2,861 posts)I have to go home and make dinner before I can put it on the table. I'm sure Nancy Pelosi will let us know when we're all ready to chow down on some impeachment cobbler.

(15,647 posts)no impeachment because it would be better for the country if he was removed via the ballot box. As the clock ticks down on 2020, its more and more likely there will not be an impeachment vote by Congress.

(28,829 posts)Wouldn't we have the impeachment vote in the senate near the election?

(2,064 posts)Pelosi hasnt changed anything. The investigations into Trump/Russia/Corruption will continue and once there is enough evidence available to the public, impeachment becomes viable because public pressure on GOP Senators is the only way to get them to vote for conviction

(27,816 posts)As things stand right now, there arent the votes in the Republican-held senate to convict.
Pursuing impeachment that is 100% guaranteed to fail would hand Trump and his enablers the PR jewel of the century hed declare that the failure to impeach means he has been exonerated of any wrongdoing, and his idiot base would buy every word of it.
What that would mean is that when Muellers findings are revealed, they will not have the impact they otherwise might have on Republican voters. Believing that Trump has as he will tell them repeatedly been found completely guiltless, they will view Muellers findings as having been fabricated in an attempt to frame their innocent pResident.
Remember one thing: Pelosi and other high-ranking Dems know things we dont. A lot of them know what Mueller will uncover, and how devastating it will be.
So the best course of action now is to let Mueller, who's already doing the heavy lifting, finish his job.
Pelosi didnt say impeachment is off the table forever only for now, unless evidence comes forward that will be so compelling, even the Republicans will be left with no choice. And Pelosi knows Mueller has that evidence.
Besides, letting Trump believe that impeachment is no longer a threat means hell let his guard down something thats always to our advantage.
