How soon are they going to get you walking again? After each of my knee replacements, they made me walk the length of the hall the next day. Then I went to a rehab hospital and the first day there they made me climb a set of therapy stairs.

Hope you heal quickly!

They have some exercises for me to do starting tomorrow. Otherwise since this was just to fix a meniscus tear they said I would probably be only needing crutches for a few days.

I had my left medial meniscus removed in 2001, the right in 2007. Both times I was in braces for three months - PITA.

With the knee replacements (two separate operations in 2012), no braces, walking right away, and less pain. The most irritating part was the machine to flex the knee for three hours a day. The first time around they woke me up at 4 AM to put me on the machine, took it off for breakfast, and I went about my day. But since my best sleep time is from 4 AM to noon, that really screwed up my sleep cycles. Second time around I made them do it as soon as I was done with PT in the afternoon. That way I got my sleep and was much happier.

With the meniscus I used a walker since I had one (tip: look for used ones on Craigslist or at thrift shops) for a bit but not long. Same for the knee replacements - a walker for a bit. Mostly I used it to warn people to not get in my way when I was shopping, and to justify my handicap permit hanger.

The doctor showed me pictures of what he found inside. One large piece had gotten flipped around and sandwiched in the joints so he said he wasn't surprised I had difficulty. He got that all out and smoothed out the tears. He cleared me to do anything I wanted that I felt comfortable doing.

I haven't needed the crutches since Sunday morning. I can walk pretty much normally at this point with little pain. Going up and down steps or some inclines is still a little painful and I take those slowly. I took my bike in for a pre-season tune up and picked it up today. I tried it briefly but it was still a bit painful so I think I'll wait another week or two before I try riding again.

Mine was so damaged he had to take it out in each knee and the sheath around the bone ends was completely worn through so I was walking bone on bone. That's why I got knee replacements - bone on bone wear got far too painful to live with.

I'm one week out from my L5-S1 fusion and doing good, walking around the house, but still prohibited from walking around the farm. No stairs - yet. The physical therapist said by July I will be hiking cross country so I will be ready for our trip to the UK which begins July 21.

Take and don't push yourself too fast. Your body still has to heal.

Feeling even better today. Mostly able to walk without crutches but keeping them handy in case my right leg decides to remind me that mean man in surgical scrubs just stuck some medical instruments in it the other day. So far the incisions look good.

And you all know who I think should go FUCK his orange self.
