(16,105 posts)see the actual report?
Barr can choose not to release any of it and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
2020 is an awful long way away and apparently, there are no longer any laws that actually apply to people with an R after their name.
I'm frustrated beyond capacity right now. It feels like we've been pushing that boulder all the way up the hill and it is back at the bottom. Yeah, we'll be Sisyphus and push it back up, even knowing that it will come back down and crush us again, but that doesn't make it feel any better when it happens over and over and over.
StarryNite
(9,444 posts)from being rid of him but honestly I think that's our only hope. Today he was given license to do it all again, with the help of putin, in 2020. I am sickened and saddened but not really shocked by today's announcement.
Bettie
(16,105 posts)since he's now been given a pass, I worry about what the next guy will do (R guy obviously, because anyone with a D after his name wouldn't get away with harsh language, much less criminal behavior).
People said I was "doom and gloom" and crazy when I said that giving W and his bunch a pass would lead to worse later on.
He's set the bar pretty fucking high (or is it low) with regard to criminal behavior at this point.
StarryNite
(9,444 posts)I just had a sick, gut feeling about it. I had the same feeling that this investigation was going to go nowhere. It just doesn't seem to matter what they do, they get away with it. So what is going to change between now and the 2020 election to prevent it from happening again when they not only got away with it this time, they were empowered by what they did and how they got away with it? And now they will be in our faces with it. It makes me sick!

(82,383 posts)He is not objective.
Bettie
(16,105 posts)If Barr wasn't truthful, he has every reason to keep the report from ever seeing the light of day.
Rules no longer apply to any of these people. He could literally destroy it all and there would be no recourse.
And even if we see it. What then? Impeachment is off the table, actually, it apparently isn't even a thing anymore, foreign nations have been given the green light to do whatever they wish to influence our elections, but only for Republicans, and we've got a wanna-be dictator in office with his odious, criminal children waiting in the wings to take over.
Barr may not be objective, but he has the final say over what we see...which is likely to be nothing.

(11,495 posts)I did my taxes today, and missed the announcement from Barr. When I did come online and check out DU, it looked like an invasion of "doom and gloom" posters. Some seemed to be just stirring the pot, and some were the usual "doom and gloom" gang.
I have decided since it's raining outside, and after starting a nice fire in the fire place, to stream some movies and forget about it all for the rest of the day.

(1,977 posts)People are legitimately freaked the hell out that we are potentially witnessing the turning of our democracy into a state where people will try to get away with whatever they can and your reaponse is to tell them to Shit the fuck up?....
Not cool.
There is room for discussion from all points view on this from the mervous to the calm to whatever else. But telling people to shut the fuck up is not cool in any way.

(9,444 posts)Today's news was horrible but somehow some people expect us to be optimistic? I guess some people are naturally Pollyannaish in their thinking but not all of us are. To be so dismissive to the ones of us who are very upset by this was not cool at all.

No one is happy right now, but some of us choose to wait for more than Barr's biased summation and some of us choose not to roll over for him.
StarryNite
(9,444 posts)And yes, while some people are choosing to wait for more than Barr's summation and are holding onto hope, many of us are not particularly optimistic at this point. To tell people who don't agree with your attitude of hope to STFU is in my humble opinion out of line. When something bad happens it's a pretty normal human emotion for many of us to be frustrated, disappointed, and anything but optimistic. But I guess we're just supposed to sit down and shut up because somebody tells us to.

(16,105 posts)it is about the fact that right wingers get away with it 99% of the time! It doesn't fucking matter what they do, they get a slap on the wrist at most, but more often, zero consequences beyond getting richer....and amassing more power.
Meanwhile, our leaders, the ones we elected, "take the high road"...."keep their powder dry"....and kick the can farther up the road, but nothing ever changes.
Yes, we had Obama and that was good, but now we have an even worse criminal than W/Cheney and he will most likely get off scot free as well...
"Hair on fire"? Really? How about just so disgusted with what will probably be another "whoops, we're criminals, nothing to see here though, nothing you can do about it!" situation.
Remember: impeachment is off the table, but oligarchs seeing that our elections go the way they want them to isn't.
Why is my hair on fire? Because I have one fucking vote and that is the extent of any power I have.

(15,124 posts)read the "all is lost" crap on DU? What group do you think is high-fiving each other when they see the sack-cloth and ashes being worn by Democrats?
Think it, if you must, but take responsibility for giving "aid and comfort" to the enemy when you broadcast it. Fear is contagious whether justified or not.

I wonder... is it satisfying to kick someone when they're down... when they're feeling disappointed, confused and unsure, and when they're expressing their anger, fear and sense of hopelessness.
Is it better to scold and shame someone when they're feeling vulnerable... compared to offering encouragement or hope?

(1,827 posts)Last few days ive seen so many people throwing in the towel. We have no idea what the report says, and no idea what SDNY will do yet. Chill out and let time tell. No one outside of Mueller, Barr, and a few others know what is written. All that has been said is that Trump had no collusion, "personally". Which isn't saying he's innocent.
