My colleagues might think its okay that the Russians offered dirt on the Democratic candidate for president as part of whats described as the Russian governments effort to help the Trump campaign. You might think thats okay.
My colleagues might think its okay that when that was offered to the son of the president, who had a pivotal role in the campaign, that the presidents son did not call the FBI; he did not adamantly refuse that foreign help no, instead that son said that he would love the help with the Russians.
You might think its okay that he took that meeting. You might think its okay that Paul Manafort, the campaign chair, someone with great experience running campaigns, also took that meeting. You might think its okay that the presidents son-in-law also took that meeting. You might think its okay that they concealed it from the public. You might think its okay that their only disappointment after that meeting was that the dirt they received on Hillary Clinton wasnt better. You might think thats okay.
You might think its okay that when it was discovered, a year later, that they then lied about that meeting and said that it was about adoptions. You might think that its okay that it was reported that the president helped dictate that lie. You might think thats okay. I dont.
You might think its okay that the campaign chairman of a presidential campaign would offer information about that campaign to a Russian oligarch in exchange for money or debt forgiveness. You might think thats okay, I dont.
You might think its okay that that campaign chairman offered polling data to someone linked to Russian intelligence. I dont think thats okay.
You might think its okay that the president himself called on Russia to hack his opponents emails, if they were listening. You might think its okay that later that day, in fact, the Russians attempted to hack a server affiliated with that campaign. I dont think thats okay.
You might think its okay that the presidents son-in-law sought to establish a secret back channel of communication with the Russians through a Russian diplomatic facility. I dont think thats okay.
You might think its okay that an associate of the president made direct contact with the GRU through Guccifer 2.0 and WikiLeaks, that is considered a hostile intelligence agency. You might think its okay that a senior campaign official was instructed to reach that associate and find out what that hostile intelligence agency had to say in terms of dirt on his opponent.
You might think its okay that the national security adviser designate secretly conferred with the Russian ambassador about undermining U.S. sanctions, and you might think its okay that he lied about it to the FBI.
You might say thats all okay, thats just what you need to do to win. But I dont think its okay. I dont think its okay. I think its immoral, I think its unethical, I think its unpatriotic and, yes, I think its corrupt and evidence of collusion.

(56,896 posts)Let no one lose sight of the fact that if we had not taken the House last November, this speech would never have been given uninterrupted, certainly not seen in its entirety, repeated, and commented extensively upon on TV.
Schiff's chairmanship brought his speech to a whole new level. We had better believe it caught the Republicans' attention. We had better not forget that, either, the next time someone wants to tout the glorious cause of attacking Democratic incumbents in the primaries. The time to do that is NOT when losing the House means silencing Adam Schiff, or relegating him to 15 second sound bytes, after which he is shouted down by loud-mouthed Republicans or cut off by hostile hosts saying "that's all the time we have."

(278,782 posts)Why did they think they could upend a Congressional hearing with a demand for the Chairman's resignation - and get away with it. I will not yield. That was special.

(6,118 posts)I think it will go down in history. It is almost unbelievable they thought that, but I guess it is not a total surprise with the current events. I was so glad he didn't let them speak then. I think I would have said something about Nunes conduct running to the WH/ trump as well.
but I would also have added the Ryan cover up when McCarthy told them that he thinks Putin pays the Con and Russianbacker. I would have said it cannot be OK for the speaker to tell other ReTHUGs to keep that in the family.
