I must be starting to resemble a Good ole Boy as I age

Standing at the counter at McDonald's today I was waiting for my big breakfast with my newspaper laid out on the counter in front of me some guy behind me pointed to a photo on the front page of EMTs working on a recent shooting victim in Chicago and he said those people are really something.

I snapped back with, "Who are those people?

He thought about it for a few seconds and said everyone who lives on the south side.

I stared at this asshole and said, "I grew up on the south side."

He was done talking.

I just got a haircut yesterday. Real short as usual because when I get it cut short my going bald isn't as noticeable. That may have thrown him off and allowed me into is racist comfort zone?

2. The only solution is to grow your hair back and look like a hippie

I'm 64 and I worry that people think I'm a teabagger just because of my age.

5. I got my hair cut earlier this fall and I'm hoping that by the time hot weather gets here next

summer it will be long enough to pull back into a tail as I've wanted to let it grow to where i could for years, Proud old hippie here, but about the time it gets to where I can see it getting pretty close to long enough the heat of summer makes me cut it off. So far I've still got most of my hair, receding back from my forehead and getting thinner but I always had a good full head of hair. My dad went to his grave at the ripe young age of 77 and he still had his hair and not much gray. my mom was white headed by the time I was born and my hair is quickly turning and I can't hardly wait for it to be white like my mothers were. I love getting old, Aches and pains I can so far live with so my enthusiasm for aging hasn't dampened much.

11. The obvious bald spot usually on the top, rear part of my head

When I had longer hair that spot tends to resemble the end of a corn cob.

You must have noticed this visual effect on some older balding men before.

Here is a photographic example:

9. I think if you're white, bigots will instantly assume you're on their side

I'm a middle aged Caucasian woman in San Francisco of all places--and I get it too! The conspirital whispers about "those kind of people" and how they're occupying what was once a good neighborhood, blah blah blah. The most recent? I was at a mall in Daly City, which has a huge Phillippino population. Some old witch comes right up to me and says: "Oh, it so good to see you!". I think I must know her and just don't remember (a more frequent occurrence than I care to admit to) so I start to smile back, when she continues: "You just never see other white people around here anymore. You're a sight for sore eyes."

When I finally quit sputtering, I started screaming at her not to assume I shared her racism and that she and I had nothing in common. She ran away to her car and drove off, while I was still ranting.

These people are morons, and hopefully dinosaurs dying out, but not quickly enough. I just don't need them spewing hate to me because I happen to be the same color.

I have been confused with being Latino in the past.

10. I have always been amazed

by assumptions that people make about total strangers, evidently based on outer appearance. I knew a store manager who was as white as they come - red hair, blue eyes, a little geeky, etc. One day a white customer made some racist remarks about black people just assuming that Bill shared that view.

Well, Bill's wife is black and they have two children. I was so impressed with how cool and calm he was. I suppose it wasn't the first time.

I've had people behave similarly around me (a white woman) and I just want to scream, "You don't know me! Why would you make such an assumption?" Well actually I have said things to that effect, and though I may raise my voice, I rarely scream!

In addition, I might add people tend to do this when talking about gay people as well. What the hell!
