Sam Patten admitted to using foreign money to buy Trump inaugural tickets, lied to Senate Intel Committee, and after his testimony deleted his entire Gmail archive folder. He's asking for probation.
The Trump Inauguration Swamp Festival investigation continues...
Sam Patten, a GOP lobbyist who straw-purchased inauguration tickets for a Ukranian oligarch, lied to the Senate Intel Committee about it, and then in a claim of "computer trouble" deleted his entire Gmail Archive folder containing a reported 200,000 emails.
As usual Natasha Bertrand has the story:

Sam Patten's attorneys say he concealed a payment from a Ukrainian oligarch to Trump's inaugural because he was "blinded by a desire to accommodate his client." His lawyers also say that he "erred" in deleting 200k emails following his interview with the Senate Intel Committee.

(33,643 posts)Servers as well.
Trying to delete emails, even if it's from your OWN server, as a way to try to hide them ... is a fools errand. Every email has a sender and (at least one) recipient, which means at a MINIMUM every email you receive or send ... exists on at least ONE server which is NOT yours (I mean, unless you're like Google themselves, in control of both the sender and recipients email server ... and even then, either side could have set their email client to download every email, thus limiting your ability to 'clean up' conversations).
Almost certainly, the Senate committee is well-aware of this fact, and the Majority could absolutely subpoena the 'missing' emails from Google. But, conveniently for Patten ... as we know ...
