Between the Pulitzer picture display, the 9/11 memorial area, the history of newspapers, the marvelous tributes and information for the first amendment rights - it just reinforced how the struggle we are seeing today has been played out since the very first presidency in our country, and of course well before that elsewhere.
We are departing for home tomorrow after three incredible days here. The culture - the museums (we spent much of Friday at the museum of African American Art and Culture - barely scratched the surface of all that there was to absorb there - we were so deeply moved...so profound).
The most disturbing aspect were the occasional MAGA hats and T shirts...especially on kids with school groups. yuck.
What a memorable, amazing, indelible experience to visit this place.

(60,014 posts)Loved the meals we had - Busboys and Poets (we were in an airbnb on New Jersey, so could walk everywhere), Ella's, and Oyamel Cuccina....all perfect for what we were looking for. Hoping to get another invite to speak at the Botanic Garden again in a few years (got to give one two years ago, this morning - just a wonderful venue)

(14,013 posts)fabulous location. And their future is very shaky at this point.
Meanwhile nearby in DC, another destination, the Trump Post Office palace seems to be doing swell, what with all the oligarchs staying there.

Most republicans converted from the rebellious stage into conservative politix well into their 20s or 30s. I think this is a social statement instead of political.
I have a feeling kids today wear MAGA gear because they aren't allowed to wear confederate flags to school. It's part of the diesel blooded redneck image. It's a tobacco tainted hocker in the eye of social norm. It's not necessarily racist so much as a middle finger to everyone.
Teens being teens and seeking an identity. Hopefully they'll grow out of it.
That he's achieved status as an anti-social role model is quite an accomplishment for a president at mid-term.

It was 1996 and Clinton vs Dole was going on so I taught about the political process and we and a mock debate, etc. I couldn't let my opinions be known as a public school teacher. The majority of the class wanted Dole because of their parents and the school was near a Marine base is a conservative area (at the time it was more so than now). They get their perspective at this age from their parents and environment.
