A faith-based adoption agency in Michigan is suing the state after officials prohibited adoption agencies from discriminating against same-sex couples.
The agency claims that, in doing so, Michigan is violating its constitutional right to religious expression.
The lawsuit was filed Monday by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty on behalf of Michigan-based foster and adoptive services contractor St. Vincent Catholic Charities, a couple who adopted five children through St. Vincent and a woman who was adopted through St. Vincent.
"There isn't any access problem or harm in (St. Vincent) continuing to operate as they were," Becket Fund attorney Nick Reaves told CNN. "They don't stand in the way of same-sex couples."
The legal challenge comes after Michigan last month said it would end contracts with adoption agencies that discriminate against same-sex couples or LGBTQ people who "may otherwise be qualified foster care or adoptive parents" for children in state custody.

(11,686 posts)Let a child not ever have a permanent home with parents who love them and can give them far more than the foster homes they will be bounced around to.
Their chance of having nicer things and better opportunities instead of the absolute bare minimum simply to survive.
These children not living a better life is worth it to these so called Christians to make damn sure LGBT are not allowd to adopt them.
How ultimately selfish.
Does their god say anything about selfishness and denying children of love and a safe home?

These religious organizations may be RIGHTEOUS, but they care about $ more!

(16,646 posts)You wouldn't have to look very hard to find religions that don't cotton to those marriages between races, or even creeds. Should we allow that too?

(36,853 posts)If straight Christian couples would step up and adopt the children, there would be none for the same sex couples to adopt.
That's if they truly believe children should have a mama and a papa.
