The FBI has arrested a New Mexico man who allegedly illegally detained immigrants crossing the border under the guise of working for the United States Border Patrol.

Larry Mitchell Hopkins runs The United Constitutional Patriots (UCP), an armed border militia group that spreads far-right conspiracies and rounds up asylum seekers on the border.

The FBI arrested Hopkins Saturday on charges of possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon. Recent video footage released by UCP shows two members holding what appear to be semi-automatic rifles near immigrants, many of them children.

The group also peddles conspiracy theories and produces a radio show where members spread information about QAnon, and accuse migrants of associating with ISIS.

it's a page on the GovServ aggregator. To get a page there you really just have to have a Facebook page for them to link up with - it's more of an aggregation type of site than anything 'official'. From the "How do I add my listing" section of their FAQ: "First, you need your restaurant listed on Facebook with its own free business page. The militia group's FB page is the real cesspit. There are several 'United Constitutional Patriot' affiliated pages. This one is the "United Constitutional Patriots - New Mexico Border Ops" one (I'm not going to link to them - if you're curious, it can be found!). They are now blaming some of their own (former?) members for falsely reporting this guy...and still begging for money and materials.

Yes, it's s bad as you imagine it is.

The logical next step would be for them to charge the 'felon in possession' with kidnapping or unlawful imprisonment.

What the actual fuck is this guy thinking?: No one will notice? No one will care? You would have to have a complete screw-you attitude to disobey that law.
There was a time in my life where my behavior (completely my fault) resulted in not being allowed to own a firearm for a while. I did not, would not, go near a firearm during that time. It was an automatic 5 years if caught and the law doesn't play with the "felon in possession" thing.
