Giuliani: 'Nothing Wrong' With Getting Political Dirt From Russians'

Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani says working with Russians on campaign dirt is a completely defensible political move.

The Trump campaign’s attempt to solicit political assistance from agents of the Russian government was perfectly legal, the president's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani suggested on Sunday, calling it was a completely defensible political move.

“There’s nothing wrong with taking information from Russians,” Giuliani told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview on Sunday morning, referring to a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting at which Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner solicited dirt on Hillary Clinton from people they believed to be acting at the behest of the Russian government.

Pressed by Tapper on whether it’s “okay” to use information stolen by adversarial foreign governments in the service of a presidential candidacy, Giuliani replied, “it depends on the stolen material.”

The investigative report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller released this week reviewed evidence that Don Jr. and Kushner may have violated campaign finance laws by enthusiastically taking that Trump Tower meeting in anticipation of receiving opposition research from two Russian attorneys with ties to the country’s government.

crime is perfectly okay if you are a republican.

At least Chhristopher Steele didn't hack or steal anything when he gathered intel on trump's dealings with the russians and their peeing hookers.

Otherwise, they wouldn't have tried to falsely portray the subject of the meeting as "adoption."

Rudy, you're losing it.

It's ok when they do it, not ok when the opposition do it. Therefore, in the Republicans minds, since they are the "Superior" and Gawd has chosen them as the party of JC, than it's ok to ignore and break rules and laws, especially the Constitution.

8. Yep, if we're going to judge our politicians on morality we wouldn't have anyone in office...

That's the new standard for elected office, I guess. None. I don't understand why Rudy said he wouldn't have accepted Russian assistance if it's not illegal. I don't understand why talking heads are ignoring obstruction. I read one op ed today that said they cleared tRump from obstructing the investigation because he didn't want the people to view his election as tainted. So they gave him a pass because he wasn't trying to hide collusion with the Russians. It doesn't matter why he obstructed the investigation, it only matters that he did.

I hope the media continues to ask all candidates if they would/are receiving foreign campaign assistance and if they think it is OK. I also hope they do not drop the ball on obstruction although I have my doubts the Democrats will take up impeachment since the media appears to not want them to.

but here's his lawyer openly admitting that he did in fact conspire with an "adversarial foreign government" to tip the election in his favor. And it's perfectly OK, too.

Surely other presidents throughout our history have done the same thing... Right? I'm fair certain that my old high school history textbooks documented how JFK asked his nemesis, the commies of the old USSR to give him the Oval. I distinctly remember reading about how LBJ conspired with the Viet Cong to steal the presidency from Barry Goldwater.

Trump, the illegitimate president, belongs in prison not in the White House.

Nixon gave Haldeman his orders: Find ways to sabotage Johnson’s plans to stage productive peace talks, so that a frustrated American electorate would turn to the Republicans as their only hope to end the war.

- Keeping it a secret from the FBI that you got this info, despite being explicitly informed that you must notify them if Russians try to contact you.
THAT is obstruction of justice.

- Carter Page meeting with possible russian secret agents in Moscow. George Papadopolous meeting with possible russian agent Joseph Mifsud in Malta. Jared Kushner and Jeff Sessions secretly meeting with the russian ambassador Sergej Kislyak. Donald Trump Jr. meeting with russian agent of the Ministry of the Interior Natalya Veselnitskaya. Michael Flynn engaging in diplomatic negotations with the russian government on behalf of a future Trump-administration.
THAT is conspiracy and maybe even treason.

- The cover-up of all of that.
THAT is obstruction of justice, witness-tampering and perjury.
