The Republican president ordered officials not to obey legal requests from the Democratic-led House of Representatives, which is carrying out multiple investigations of his administration, including his tax returns, White House security clearances and the probe of Russian interference in U.S. politics.
President Trump and Attorney General (William) Barr are now openly ordering federal employees to ignore congressional subpoenas and simply not show up - without any assertion of a valid legal privilege, Representative Elijah Cummings, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement.
This is a massive, unprecedented, and growing pattern of obstruction, Cummings added, warning federal employees to think very carefully about their own legal interests in refusing to comply with the panels requests.
The president vowed to resist every subpoena from House Democrats investigating his administration and to fight any effort by them to impeach him. Trumps removal from office is most unlikely barring a change of heart by his fellow Republicans, who hold a majority in the U.S. Senate.

(3,813 posts)I could see televised and streamed Congressional investigations and hearings for the whole summer, building upon testimony after testimony, starting with Papadopoulis and on up to Trump family, and in-parallel from Preet Bharara and Comey to Rod Rosenstein and Sessions, etc. Culminate in a subpoena of Trump in September and then full impeachment charges in October. Leave no stone unturned, and make the collusion, corruption, obstruction, and all other possible charges comprehensive.

(26,291 posts)House and the Trump family.
That should also include funding any travel expenses for the SS to anywhere other than to the White House which means Trumps Margo trips will not be happening unless its without the SS.
If they still will not cave then slowly cut the funding to varies deep red states that have Trump supporting Senators.

(15,100 posts)At this point, there is no way to coerce any good behavior out of these ass holes. Contempt of Congress. Arrests. And close the wallet. I especially like the idea of not funding the SS except in Washington DC. No more golf weekends, Trumpie! ...haz a sad...

(9,895 posts)GOP "tough guys" like Trump are inherently cowards. His followers are even more cowardly!
For grins, march them through a general population, hard core prison exercise yard and have the cons give them the "New Meat stare"...they'll shit themselves and be BEGGING to testify before the end of the yard is reached...

(6,176 posts)that he is openly engaging in obstruction of the House.
He is pretty much daring them to impeach him so he can watch his lackies in the Senate give him a free pass.
His arrogance and contempt for the constitution is mind boggling.
I think he already believes he's president for life.
This mess will probably stretch into next year and promises to be the biggest issue in the 2020 election.
I don't see how Trump can get re-elected if he continues to defy to rule of law.
I have faith in the American Voters.
This is way over the top, even for him.
