(22,976 posts)Seeing those same gifted folks, year-in, year-out, do their stuff. While it wasnt biting, topical humor, it did have a friendly surrealism running through it, presented by this familiar troupe.
The Mrs. Wiggins/Mr. Tudball sketches are exemplary. Crazy-funny, tear-inducing, with an infectious silliness that approached a state of grace.

(15,550 posts)I've seen it many times and I still crack up watching it. I grew up watching the Carol Burnett show and loved it, but he was by far the funniest.
This is what happens when you get older. People you know and people you used to watch on TV die every day. It really is a rude awakening.
Thanks, Tim for all the laughs you brought my way.
RIP

(33,606 posts)Death does not come in threes. Any calendar of celebrity deaths for a year will show that. You just stop counting at three and start again when the next celeb dies. it is a silly superstition.

(24,376 posts)of Conway trying to bust everyone up.
The vid of Vicki Lawrence describing the incident..."Get him"...is truly insightful.
Harvey Korman loved him to death, but I remember him saying he had a love/hate relationship with doing sketches with Tim, because he would always crack him up on live TV.
He was a unique talent and possessed an incredible comic mind.

(4,428 posts)It was 1965 in Cleveland and my dad, an advertising guy, needed a young voice actor to play opposite Tim in a local radio commercial. They were both young guys whose careers hadnt really fully developed yet. I got the part. We worked for about 3 hours to make a 30 second spot. I made $30.
He was really nice and kept me relaxed and entertained the whole time. We had ice cream during a break and I remember a lot of laughing. It wasnt work for him, it was play. Ill never forget it.
My dad passed two months ago, and now Tim.

(22,976 posts)With a group of colleagues, as a thank-you for some programming work we did with then-state senator Diane Watson.
Sitting right next to us were Tim Conway and Richard Pryor, who were clearly obvious buddies who did this often. Youd think these two would be an odd paring Pryor, the edgy-risky social critic, and Conway, the skilled farceur/sketch comic. Regardless of their different professional styles, they were thick as thieves in real life. While I appreciated both of them, seeing them hang out together made me regard these two gents a bit higher.
Hope theyre both sharing a laugh now as pure energy and star-matter.

As a side-note, whats occurred recently at Santa Anita race track is absolutely tragic, and I feel that the sport of thoroughbred horse racing should be discontinued altogether. Just my devalued nickels worth.
