Graham Is Introducing a Bill to Increase Detention of Migrant Children From 20 Days to 100 Days

Senator Lindsey Graham Is Introducing a Bill to Increase Detention of Migrant Children From 20 Days to 100 Days
By Chantal Da Silva On 5/14/19 at 12:59 PM EDT

Senator Lindsey Graham plans to introduce immigration legislation on Wednesday that he said would "stop 90 percent of the illegal immigration from Central America."

Breaking down his plan to deter asylum seekers from crossing the U.S. border outside of designated ports of entry, Graham told Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo that he wanted to see the number of days migrant children could be held in detention increased from 20 to 100 days.

"We got a perfect storm now because of broken laws," Graham told Bartiromo in a Sunday interview.

"Word is out on the street in Central America, if you bring a minor child with you to America, we can only hold a minor child for 20 days, where we release everybody, including the adults. They never show up for the hearing because it's three years from now," Graham said.

"You can only hold a minor for 20 days. We're going to go to 100 days," he said.

The South Carolina Republican was referring to the "20-day rule" outlined in the 1997 Flores agreement, which stemmed from a Supreme Court case that set the nation's standards on the treatment of migrant children in federal custody.

The 20-day rule is one that Trump administration officials, including President Donald Trump himself, had repeatedly hit back against.

and taken up residence in the furthest reaches of his colon? It seems it could be one of two things: (1) Some sort of really heinous kompromat, or (2) craven, weapons-grade opportunism. My theory is #2 (yes, he's a whole lot of Number Two). I don't think it's kompromat, at least any worse than what the other GOPers have been up to with the Russians. He could be gay, but even if he is, it's doubtful that's he'd go to such extreme lengths to stay in the closet these days, even in South Carolina. I do think that he's attached himself like a remora to one of Trump's blubbery orange buttocks because he thinks he can get something from him.

And what I think he thinks he can get is the running mate spot in 2020. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that during that golf game (the one where Graham gushed about Trump's impossible golf score), Trump dangled the possibility, recognizing, in his own reptilian way, that Graham is just the sort of guy who'd eagerly lick Trump's asshole like a Popsicle if that's what it took to get the job. Trump has no particular attachment to Pence, who was selected for him to only attract fundie voters. Pence, meanwhile, knows he has to eat Trump's shit sandwiches every day to keep his position on the ticket, and he's been doing it. But Graham's sycophancy is more useful to Trump now because Graham is a powerful Senator (Judiciary Committee chair, no less). So maybe Trump is keeping him on the string with a hint of better things, to be sure the Senate stays in line.

That's my theory, for what it's worth.

Maybe it isn't about him being gay, as much as it is about who he's been with, if he is gay? Maybe his supporters in South Carolina wouldn't have a problem, if he were in a relationship with an adult, but if he's into under aged males, that won't be dealt with so kindly!!

And then law enforcement would have to get involved!

Just an opinion, maybe a theory!!!
