Radio host Howard Stern told CNNs Anderson Cooper in an interview this week that President Donald Trump experienced a traumatic childhood and probably needed psychotherapy to recover.
Stern has known Trump for decades and frequently interviewed him on his show before he entered politics. In his new book, Howard Stern Comes Again, he details some of his experiences with Trump.
From what I know of Donald and his relationship with his father, it sounds traumatic. It sounds like the father was very domineering. The father expected a lot of him. And the father, I dont know, there was military school. You know, you read these drips and drabs and you go wow, Stern explained.
I can assure you hes been traumatized. Because, you know, Donald, you know, his level of narcissism is so strong. He has troubled with empathy. We know that. And I wish hed go into psychotherapy. Id be so proud of him if he did, and he would flourish.
But Stern said there was no way that Trump would actually ever attend psychotherapy sessions.
He also told Cooper that he doesnt believe Trump enjoys being president.

(63,221 posts)Therapy would have no effect on him. In order for therapy to work, you have to want to change and you have to realize that part of the problem lies with you. That will never happen with him. He will always be a fucking asshole.

(13,776 posts)That Trump wouldnt want to change. As far as hes concerned, hes perfect.
It was a really interesting interview, and I say that as someone who strongly disliked Howard Stern in the past. He seems to have changed a lot.

(10,828 posts)Lesions on his kidneys, I think, that the physicians were pretty sure were cancerous. He really thought he was going to die.
Turned out to be a false alarm but the medical event scared the bejesus out of him. He started reflecting on his past shenanigans and failed marriage, how he'd hurt the people around him. From the sounds of it, the experience changed him dramatically.
Tasting your own mortality can do that.

(42,641 posts)It certainly seems likely, but that (possible) fact alone does not release Trump from his liability for his crimes.

(25,247 posts)If he thinks so highly of himself and is so perfect - is it because of his parents? (sarcasm)

John Wayne Gacy was abused as a kid too, and I doubt therapy would have steered him away from the horrifying path his life took.

(180 posts)There were reports that his father found him with a switchblade then shipped him off. But i have always believe there was more to it than this. Could there have been blood on the switchblade? I have never encountered a person like him in my life. The mix of cruelty, sadism and pathological lying just makes me shudder. We cannot let him be re-elected. If that happens he will end the world.

(21,716 posts)She said that tRump was always out of control. Could bully all his classmates and his teachers. The school couldn't handle him, so his parents sent him to military school to try to get a handle on his behavior. So he was always a juvenile delinquent.
