Not OK for Obama --- but OK for Trump!

By Rebecca Shabad and Frank Thorp V

... At a chamber luncheon in Paducah, Kentucky, on Tuesday, McConnell was asked by a member of the audience, “Should a Supreme Court justice die next year, what will your position be on filling that spot?"

“I would fill it,” he responded, smirking, which drew loud laughter ...

He is the most dangerous man in our country. Barr is a close second. They are worse than Trump because they now the rules to break.

They could care less about being called a hypocrite as long as they win.

Fair play be damned.

Kentucky voters don’t necessarily like him, but they like that one of their senators has such power and can thwart Democrats. He will be reelected because the Kentucky vote has been rigged for him for decades. That would only be overturned with unexpectedly high votes for the Democratic candidate. The best bet is a Democratic majority so that he is denied the leader’s gavel.

6. If we win back the POTUS in 2020, but the Rethugs keep the Senate, they will never allow a vote

for a Democratic president's SCOTUS nominee, and if they (the Rethugs) retain Senate in 2022, they will leave it (or 2 or even 3 vacancies) empty the entire 4 year term. That will extend that to 6 or even eight years IF we retain the POTUS yet still fail to regain the Senate in 2024 or 2026.

I honestly think we will never again see a Republican-controlled Senate approve a Democratic-nominated SCOTUS judge unless they have such a slim majority and the nominee is so conservative they have a few defections.

or cabinet positions. That's what they were doing to President Obama, that's why Harry Reid invoked the nuclear option in 2013 for federal judges and cabinet appointees.

Control of the Senate by an obstructive Republican party is a big blow to our democracy.

This is why Trump is sucking up to North Korea, they are good at cyber hacking. Trump can't win a fair election he needs help from Putin and or Kim. Don't dismiss this idea as nonsense, it is a real possibility.

Obama could have had one Democratic Senator publicly approve Garland and declare him approved by the Senate. Then swear him in. Learn how to twist the rules or interpret unwritten ones to your advantage just as the GOP always does.

no, obama could not have simply made up senate rules and pretend that the one democratic senator can overrule the majority of the senate or the senate's official rules.

when we have the power, republicans have certainly earned a whole lot of payback, and stacking the courts to rebalance things would be among the things we should do when we are able.

but we can't just make up rules. it doesn't work like that.

12. Republicans see the end of America in sight and

they are propelled by a messianic zeal to finally see it destroyed. Every ungodly thing in their eyes will be ripped root and branch from once fertile soil. Republicans will take more control of women’s lives by keeping them pregnant. Scientific studies will be destroyed or rewritten so that the new science supports the new dictatorial regime’s goals. People will be kept sick and tormented by poverty, but armed with guns so bloodlust can take the place of a hungry belly.

Some of this is already happening. Trans people are being written out of federal guidelines. I read yesterday that the Trump administration is shredding scientific studies about global warming.

Oh sure, they will keep the symbols - the flag, etc - but the theocratic state will be known as America in name only. The new allies will be the tinpot dictators of the world.

It’s heartbreaking and frightening. And if they succeed, then it won’t matter if children are housed in internment camps or if America’s life expectancy continues to fall; those things pale in comparison to serving the new American Jesus. The countries that resist towing America’s line will be dealt with swiftly and brutally.

Yet we know how to stop this or at least slow them down. But do enough people have the will to change it? Why aren’t we working harder on retaking the senate? Defeating Trump will wrest back the bully pulpit, but the destruction of America will not stop until the republicans are the minority party in every branch of government.

Our lives depend on the vote. The House, the vote, and our bodies in protest are all we have to change the course of history. Will we use them?
