Historical perspective . . . a discussion I'd like to see

I'd like to hear discussed with Michael Beschloss or any of the great historians as to what kind of articles were appearing around the time of the Revolutionary War or Civil War. Were the discussions they were having at the time about what the political fallout might be if they were for/against the war? Were they worrying about how the base of the other party would react?

Or maybe the discussions about going to fight Hitler. Were the articles about whether their party would lose seats?

I think we need some historical perspective.

I guess the main point here was to look at how they were discussing it back then pdsimdars Jun 2019 #2

are corrupt and must be stopped using all possible constitutional means. That's the goal. We can differ
somewhat on procedures and strategy as long as we keep the goal in view.

I mean, were they talking about not losing elections so they didn't want to raise a stink? To point out that we have made principled decisions about big issues without the small thinking that is happening now.
