(8,870 posts)U.S.S. John McCain hats are easy to get. Go to any one of many sites to buy. Usually $20 bucks. Every dem in America should wear them. It would be a huge outnumbering of red hats. And not a penny goes to tRump. "Medals of America" is one site. Make prisoners of war great again.

(146,345 posts)really good. Mutton is impossible to get in the United States, but I ate it in Turkey when I was there. There were these takeout-type restaurants in Samsun near my base. They had a leg of mutton on a vertical spit in front of a charcoal fire behind steel mesh. Underneath the spit was a tray full of couscous and vegetables. As the spit turned, the juices from the roasting mutton dripped into it. It was the local version of shawarma, in its most primitive form.
When you ordered a plate, the guy running the place sliced thin slices of the mutton off onto your plate, and then scooped up some of the couscous mixture. A pita bread was laid on top of it. Pretty much the most wonderful thing I've ever eaten, actually. A plate cost about $1 US.
Anyhow....mutton is good. Think of the unique flavor of lamb, amplified about 5 times. The taste for mutton, however, has disappeared in this country, although in the 18th and 19th century, it was a staple in most kitchens. The unique flavor, apparently, is no longer appreciated. If you want mutton today, you'd have to find a sheep farmer and buy the whole animal and have it butchered for you.
That may change, though, with the growing population of Islamic immigrants. Mutton is halal, and I expect to be able to find it somewhere before long. When I do, I'm going to have a 19th century feast and invite everyone to it. The menu will be straight out of an old cookbook from the period.

(146,345 posts)However they prefer to express themselves is just fine, it seems to me.
Frumpiness is to be avoided, of course. On the other hand, by adopting the frumpy fashion habits of Americans, perhaps they could form a closer bond with citizens of their former colony. I will leave it to the Royal Family to decide.

(34,139 posts)I don't even wear my "wedding"* ring - but my husband wears his.
(*It's in quotes since we didn't have a wedding and didn't exchange rings. Six months after we made our union legal we traveled across country and in the Southwest bought two turquoise and mother of pearl rings. My husband wore his until the stones fell out, mine sat on the dresser. For our fifth anniversary we bought gold bands. I promptly lost mine, my husband wore his for years, then started wearing my turquoise ring. For our thirtieth anniversary we bought "infinity" rings with a braided band that is supposed to turn on the inner ring. I've bent mine so the band doesn't turn anymore. I wear it sometimes. My husband still wears his all the time.)
If I wore jewelry I would look for pins like Jill wears - they are great and make such great statements!
