20 Things That Are Dirtier Than a Toilet Seat
https://www.ranker.com/list/everyday-things-that-have-a-lot-of-germs/matthewcoleweiss?page=3
<snip>
Let's face it - the bathroom is a bevy of bacteria. Germs and bacteria such as streptococcus, E. coli, hepatitis A, common colds, and a few STDs thrive in this moldy, damp atmosphere. It's gross. You'd think the toilet seat would be public enemy number one when it comes to germs and contamination, but actually, you'd be wrong. This list of common everyday objects features all kinds of things that are actually dirtier than your toilet, and are covered in all kinds of nasty and gross germs.
Not only are there other objects in your bathroom itself that have more cooties than your porcelain throne, but there are tons of household items and every day tools that carry more germs than a toilet seat. From ATM and elevator buttons to kitchen sponges and faucet handles and even your backyard BBQ, there are germs lurking everywhere in your home, office, and most frequented public places!
So, which of these germ-ridden objects surprised you the most? Vote up the nastiest objects that you had no idea were covered in bacteria. Then go wash your hands, replace your pillows, and get rid of the biofilm in your shower. It's just as gross as it sounds.

(51,591 posts)No wonder the teachers are always sick (and still go to work).

(268,997 posts)Funny how we don't think about these issues enough.
I try to clean the keyboards and remote controls with Dettol and/or Lysol at least one every fortnight.

(15,539 posts)Ever since my grandchild started day care/preschool, I can't believe how often she got sick. And every time I was asked to babysit, I'd end up getting what she had, except for that time she had hand, foot and mouth disease. I didn't get that. I guess most adults are able to fend that off.
I love how I'm never forewarned when I agree to babysit that she has been coughing and has a runny nose. I'm just now getting over a two week cold.
No matter how much they try to keep the classrooms disinfected, etc. the toys and tables, etc. are probably always germy. Don't get me started on the bathrooms.

(51,591 posts)I can tell you first hand that I was sick 90% of the time and was hospitalized with pneumonia, had mono for 6 months (never took a day off since the district won't get subs due to being super cheap), etc and finally had to leave the profession due to it. The kids get better in a few days while the adults take weeks to get better, that is if they are even allowed the time to recover. Parents send kids to school as a free baby sitting services a lot since they can't take time off work or they send the kids back after only one day and they are still sick. This is why the original germs are recycled for months. My immune system is shot to Hell now. I would tell parents at Back To School Night, "KEEP YOUR KID HOME WHEN THEY ARE SICK!". Teachers are not disposable.

Anyway, we also taught that many pathogens reside in the mouth, nose and throat. Just as bad as the exit point!
Sorry if you are having dinner!
A little exposure must help build immunity

(7,700 posts)...who got insulted when you told them to wash their hands. I used to say the higher the chef-hat, the harder to teach.
Once I was fired because I told the corporate chef to either put on gloves or use tongs to put the baked potato on the plate. I had too. We were feeding the elderly!
Funny, it really helped my career afterwards. People appreciate fighters for others! Like you!
Sorry again about dinner.

(17,984 posts)Just check for pee on the seat.
HOWEVER!!!! I want to warn you about a growing trend: guys who do not wash their hands after using the bathroom! I began to notice this a couple of years ago. Now just peeing I can sort of understand. Still gross, though. But pooping?!!?!?! Yes, I've seen it! I am loathe to shake people's hands now.

I always wipe public toilet seats with a damp tissue followed by a dry one before using them.
