Presidential historian Jon Meacham said on MSNBCs special about Robert Mueller, that if Democrats want to impeach the president, they must come up with a simple way that explains the report to Americans.
Host Ari Melber hosted a one-hour special on the next steps in the Mueller investigation and subsequent report. Meacham noted that it isnt a matter of Democrats seeking nuance and Republicans needing a sound-byte. He explained that in todays Twitter culture, Democrats need to boil-down 400 pages into a tweet.
I have a lot of respect for Jon Meacham. What he says may be frustrating to people who like to hear details, but the reality is that Democrats need to deliver a simple message.

Jon Meacham is so right. Ive noticed that the word lawless is being used a lot by members of our party... brief and descriptive without being a childish insult. A similarly pithy slogan would be more effective than reciting the long list of awfulness that would be true but too overwhelming.

(34,857 posts)...but actively, whereas in Clinton's situation, it was entirely the doing of the GOP. What I'm talking about is the constant stream of scandal. Americans just flat out got tired of all the noise and checked out with Clinton. There was Whitewater, Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones, Wampumgate, the Lewinsky affair, Gennifer Flowers ... it goes on. But it got to the point where Americans were just like, "let the man do his job..."
I fear we're heading that way with Trump.
But yes - the best way to counter is to break it down to a simple word (or phrase).

(14,249 posts)The press and public couldn't keep up with the "firehose" of Trump scandals (I like that!). There was a new one every day and it was difficult to keep track of stay focused on one for too long. But Hillary's "scandal" was all pooled into one thing EMAILS. And that got hammered and hammered by Trump and a complicit, lazy press and it stuck in people's minds. It was easy to remember even if they couldn't tell you what the hell it was about.

Reflects: No more patience, no more 'WTF is he thinking?', no more tolerance, no more making a mess for the adults to clean up after him.
Or, inspired by the French Revolution, just for the hard liners:
"Mme Guillotine is waiting for you, Donald!"
