Judiciary Democrats announce series of hearings on Mueller report

Judiciary Democrats announce series of hearings on Mueller report

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee on Monday announced a series of hearings on special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation in order to further examine President Trump's conduct as well as election interference by Moscow.

Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) announced the next hearing, titled "Lessons from the Mueller Report: Presidential Obstruction and Other Crimes," on June 10 as a way to push forward with the committee's sprawling oversight investigation into the Trump administration amid stonewalling from the White House.

While the White House continues to cover up and stonewall, and to prevent the American people from knowing the truth, we will continue to move forward with our investigation," Nadler said in a statement.

"These hearings will allow us to examine the findings laid out in Mueller's report so that we can work to protect the rule of law and protect future elections through consideration of legislative and other remedies," Nadler added.

Former White House Counsel John Dean as well as former U.S. attorneys and legal experts are slated to testify at the hearing next week.

Dean will be the first in a series of witnesses, according to Nadler.

"Given the threat posed by the President's alleged misconduct, our first hearing will focus on President Trump's most overt acts of obstruction. In the coming weeks, other hearings will focus on other important aspects of the Mueller report," Nadler said in his statement, adding that Mueller "has now left Congress to pick up where he left off."

I have read all over DU that Democrats aren't doing a thing.

Oh and I read that we need to be informed daily about their closed door meetings. Seriously? Guess we should just take out a full page ad every day so our enemies, the trumpie cartel, will know every step we are making and block it.

Thank you, mcar!

"Conservatives Without Conscience." Fascinating, incredibly informative, and has only become increasingly, dreadfully relevant since the 2016 election turned the nation over to them.

for the American people are a good place to start.

There are probably a lot of folks who don't know Dean's backstory and assume that he's merely another pundit.

I don't know why anyone would expect Rachel Maddow to testify. She is neither a legal expert nor was she the chief witness in a previous impeachment inquiry.

Maybe the first step will be to remind Americans what "normal" used to look look like.

I guess it's working, if it's purpose is to convince people they are doing something when they aren't. It worked on you. Will there be chicken, or is KFC ignoring their subpeonas now too? Like the empty chairs and the chicken, this is just masturbation that highlights the Congressional Democrats' unwillingness/innability to excercise raw power while their adversaries not only excercise their power, they bestow ever more power on themselves unmolested by the feckless circle jerk of the Article I branch. Or article III for that matter. They are openly defying Federal courts now.

John Dean (who very few Americans are even familiar with) to the rescue!!!

The Mueller report is clear that Trump committed obstruction.

Let me know when these hearings become Impeachment hearings. Until then, it's all just for show.

They think that their moral high ground makes them 'correct,' when murder is a specific legal term with specific definitions, and has never been applied to abortion, even when abortion was criminalized.

Alleged is the correct legal term until proven guilty, however 'tiring' it is. Even mass shooters are called "accused" or "alleged" until they plead or are convicted.

Words have meanings, and we discredit ourselves when we demand that they mean only what we want them to.

Anyone remembering the Watergate hearings should recall that Dean's testimony was so riveting and clear. He showed such a brilliant mind and memory for every detail, citing dates, names, full paragraphs of dialogue, etc. And he was fearless - he called the president of the United States a criminal and he did all of this under oath without any knowledge, at that point, that there were tapes that could back him up.

When the tapes eventually came out, people were blown away at how accurate Dean was. Much of what he testified to was confirmed on the tapes, virtually verbatim.

I can't wait to hear him testify next week!
