Trump's gift to The Queen revealed

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, as is tradition, presented Her Majesty a gift as part of the state visit that commenced on 3 June.

The Trumps gave The Queen a silver and silk poppy brooch from Tiffany & Co. The gift, carefully selected by the First Lady and presented in a custom wooden White House box, symbolises those who died during the First World War. It is also significant as The Queen and President will attend the National Commemorative Event to mark the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings at Southsea Common in Portsmouth.

They also gave her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh a custom Air Force One (the President’s plane) jacket and an autographed copy of James Doolittle’s autobiography “I Could Never Be So Lucky Again.” Doolittle was a World War II aviator.

The Queen always wears poppies on Remembrance Day. I wonder if she'll actually wear this.

is actually appropriate and beautiful. (Which I can't believe I'm saying.) Having said that, I'm sure that I'll find out why it's actually shocking and horrible after people do research. I'm sure Melania had a lot of help in determining an appropriate gift, and I think they chose well.

The gift to Phillip is ridiculous. Though I wish Trump had given him a Trump airlines jacket rather than an Air Force One, bc that would be so absurd it would be funny.

And this will probably be the nicest thing I write about the Trumps ever, and I feel like I'm having an out of body experience.

Honestly, I think the gifts were appropriate and Phillip probably was very happy with them. Advisers pick out the gifts and probably get some hints about areas of interest from the hosting government.

That brooch goes for $650 at Tiffany's. But it is tasteful and appropriate. While she gave him a special Churchill first edition that is probably worth thousands.

"In Flanders Field" was the inspiration for the tradition, which honors the fallen from WWI.
Trump is there to commemorate The Normandy Invasion of WWII.
Sigh.

Edited to add: they got the war wrong. Typical.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry have "planted" a ceramic poppy at the Tower of London marking the centenary of World War One.

The Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red exhibition, by artist Paul Cummins, involves 888,246 ceramic poppies planted in the dry moat at the Tower.

A poppy has been made for each British and Colonial death during the conflict.

The first ceramic poppy was planted last month, with the final one due to be installed on Armistice Day
