Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) slammed President Trump's comments on not serving in the Vietnam War on Wednesday, saying that only "stable geniuses" think people are "fans" of war.
"#CadetBoneSpurs: no one cares whether you were a fan of the Vietnam War," Duckworth, an Iraq war veteran, tweeted in response to Trump's interview with Piers Morgan.
"No one believes you were medically unfit to serve. You used your wealth & privilege to avoid serving your country five times, forcing another American to serve in your place each time."
"Sane people aren't "fans" of waronly #StableGeniuses would even think that. Ive met many #WWII #DDay Vets. None ever said they were fans of war. They simply answered their nations call, regardless of what they thought. Especially during the draftit wasnt optional for them."
"These comments only make one thing clear: @realDonaldTrump got his deferments for the wrong thing. They shouldn't have been for his disappearing, imaginary bone spursthey should have been for that yellow streak down his back. At least that would have been a real condition," Duckworth concluded.
Trump said in the interview broadcast Wednesday that he was "never a fan" of the Vietnam War, but that he would not have minded serving in the conflict that he avoided due to bone spurs.
He received medical deferments from the draft during the Vietnam War because of bone spurs in his feet, which has lead to some criticism and mockery.

(82,849 posts)As bad as the optics are to pick on Gold Star families and name-calling celebrities, Trump isn't going to try Sen. Duckworth and her remaining limbs. She's right about the yellow streak; Trump likes his fights when circumstances are tilted heavily in his favor. This doesn't qualify. He'll grouse privately, but he won't saying anything publicly.

(629 posts)I can't think of a single day that I wanted to be there than here. Perhaps I was simply a fan of the war. Why else would one spend months shitting in your pants, months scared out of your mind, months with jungle rot on your feet, months with your nuts so sore they stick to your leg, months killing, months wondering when it's your time, months in a hospital, enduring multiple surgeries, months of painful PT, and a lifetime of pain of some sort if one isn't a fan? I'm sure Donnie Gump is bigly sad he missed his chance.
