NYTimes: The Donald Thinks D-Day Is About Him

Opinion piece by Roger Cohen....sorry for the paywall, but the first four paragraphs are worth a read.

To have Trump commemorate the Normandy landings is to understand the word impostor.

PARIS — How small he is! Small in spirit, in valor, in dignity, in statecraft, this American president who knows nothing of history and cares still less and now bestrides Europe with his family in tow like some tin-pot dictator with a terrified entourage.

To have Donald Trump — the bone-spur evader of the Vietnam draft, the coddler of autocrats, the would-be destroyer of the European Union, the pay-up-now denigrator of NATO, the apologist for the white supremacists of Charlottesville — commemorate the boys from Kansas City and St. Paul who gave their lives for freedom is to understand the word impostor. You can’t make a sculpture from rotten wood.

It’s worth saying again. If Europe is whole and free and at peace, it’s because of NATO and the European Union; it’s because the United States became a European power after World War II; it’s because America’s word was a solemn pledge; it’s because that word cemented alliances that were not zero-sum games but the foundation for stability and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.

Of this, Trump understands nothing. Therefore he cannot comprehend the sacrifice at Omaha Beach 75 years ago. He cannot see that the postwar trans-Atlantic achievement — undergirded by the institutions and alliances he tramples upon with such crass truculence — was in fact the vindication of those young men who gave everything.

Maybe she wants her friends to whisk her back to the Mother Ship? Hey, Maleria, they do not recognize you with clothes on, strip and they will zoom in for you. Do the world a favor, take your repulsive, useless, ignorant, crass, crude, uneducated, fugly man-child with you. See if there is space for his worthless family, too.

Wouldn't have been able to waddle two feet onto the beach after the ramp dropped on the landing craft. His bloated, corpulent body would have been filled by so many holes from a German machine gun nest you could hook up the carcass to a garden hose and use it for a sprinkler.

Turned on MSNBC this am and Geist was going on and on about drumpfs pretty sentiment and good words at Normandy and being presidential. Bah humbug!!! All it showed was he has the ability to forgo drugs for one occasion and that if he practices he can get the words right. B.F.D. Any 10 year old could have done better, I am so unimpressed.

I guess he's decided he better dress better because the whole world has been laughing at him in the white gorilla costume. He's such fool, it just highlighted his ultra fat tub of lard belly and the gigantic pants just made his dishabille more obvious.

She's just so honest and direct and unrelenting in her scorn of drumpf. She goes off the rails sometimes, like in supporting traitor Barr's confirmation. She definitely does not see clearly what happened during her time at the WH, will never admit the horribleness of GW, but she's right on with current circumstances, calling them clearly. Was so glad to see the missing drumpf fellatio I saw on MJ.

Trump is such an imbecile and an embarrassment. To say that he knows nothing about history is a great understatement. The only thing that he loves is himself. He thinks that all of this pageantry is for him, when in fact it is a remnant of the great alliance between the USA, the UK, and the other European nations that defeated Nazism and ushered in an era of peace in Europe. Trump is a moron and a fool who has no knowledge of any of this.

Aided no doubt by his own seriously out of plumb sense of worth and his miscreant staff, at least two of which are visible in the line of sight just above the Queen's head: John "Yosemite" Bolton and what looks to be shady, sunglass-shrouded Stevie "Wormtongue" Miller.

What the hell would Miller be doing there?

That whole chickenshit tRump entourage is a damn disgrace to those who died on that shore those many years ago, everyone else who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country, those who were able to come home wherever that might be, those who ever served or continue to serve and finally, the rest of us who benefit from that service.

Effin imposters is right. I just want to puke.

Funny thing is the bad egg I thought was wearing sunglasses (behind and off to Bolton's left) really isn't wearing any at all. It's just Miller's dead and soulless, heartless eyes giving that appearance. Hell, he probably needs none anyway - just sucks the light out of wherever he's at.

He insulted the Navy last week. This week he pissed on our Marines. I guess he got tired of pissing on our POWs and Gold Star Families.

You would think republicans could muster a smidgen of patriotism and courage, and rebuke his for this shit. But they remain on their knees kissing his golf-flab ass.

As weak a display of humanity as any soul has ever witnessed. republicans have surrendered their honor in letting this draft dodger demean our men and women in the service.
