Pentagon NOT briefing Trump on Russian cyberattacks for fear he will betray America

or order the Pentagon to stop

Blockbuster story buried in this NYT report. Pentagon, intelligence officials fear they cannot trust Trump enough to brief him fully on new US cyber operation against Russia for fear he will "countermand it or discuss it with foreign officials" as he did before with Russians.

15. Why not? He can't know what they leave out

and he canít make them tell him anything he has no knowledge of or desire to know. He canít prove they arenít telling him something.

Anyone who deals with classified information can sure as hell keep a secret.

19. There's the danger that someone like Miller would give him the words to use to order them

to disclose the details. They may be able to keep a secret, but they're not the types to disobey direct orders.

It's not just "Trump v. underlings who try to limit him"; he gets help from some of them too, for one reason or another.

27. I'm not convinced about this story

Why would they tell a newspaper? It doesnít make sense. It might be a case of a deliberate fake report. But that also doesnít make sense.

But, nevertheless, I hope itís true. Maybe they take their oath to follow and protect the Constitution to heart.

So the headline is psycho-projection.

14. the Republicans care about holding on to their seat more

the republican party base supports trump and they need their support to stay in office.

this is why people like jeff flake and bob corker left. they would have lost in a primary for not supporting trump .

But of course, what could be done then? They, we, ALREADY know he is a traitor.

Because anyone who doubts that Trump has committed treason is a damn fool or a MAGAT. although that's redundant.

12. Those "sad days" began

as soon as fat Donnie floated down his golden escalator with his trophy escort wife. It was all downhill from there. Maybe going DOWN the escalator was a metaphor for what the future would bring? Certainly it is beyond most peoples imagination. The gop will put Devin Nunes, or Lindsey Graham on to that immediately. They are well versed at shading lard ass Don the Con. Honor and integrity be damned. They have no place in today's gop.

16. "...Trump had not been briefed in any detail..."

"...about the steps to place 'implants' -- software code that can be used for surveillance or attack -- inside the Russian grid..."

"... the possibility he might countermand or discuss it with foreign officials..."

...well, that begs the question, "Why is trump still our president?"

...instead of being considered and registered as a foreign agent?

...incompetence abounds...

1. Redacted will flap around over the thought the Pentagon isn't in his pocket.

2. Russia is on notice we probably already have whatever intelligence we need to do something.

21. amazing to note that

I'm in my early 50s and growing up, the Pentagon and military in general were thought of as fairly conservative organizations. To not inform Donny Dollhands of something like this is something that I'm sure they don't take lightly.

26. This story is bad news from several angles

Of course it's telling that the President* can't be trusted not to blab state secrets to our fiercest competitor on the international stage. This certainly is understandable given the history of tRump, his children, and Kushner to run their mouths in front of anyone who could potentially provide them with a source of personal profits.

HOWEVER, I for one don't want a military that's running around doing what the hell ever it chooses with no oversight. Look up the MKUltra project to see just how sickening things can get.

I also find it appalling that we're attacking the power grid of a foreign country, even Russia. This will only prompt them to up the ante and hit back at us in a bigger way. We don't need a cyber arms race, the money, time, and effort spent doing this should have been directed at safeguarding our elections.

30. So the NYT tells Trump, when the Pentagon won't? This is getting out of control.

There are some things that the news organizations just shouldn't print.

Now Trump knows, and can get detailed information and stop the work.
