Dont tell me youre a Trump supporter AND a good Christian. There is no such animal.
Dont wave your New Testament in my face while you ignore the teachings of The Nazarene.
Dont claim to be a follower of Christ while you support a lying, thieving, pussy-grabbing adulterer who has told over 10,000 lies since he took office.
Dont rattle your rosary at me while cheering the imprisonment of innocent children in concentration camps.
Dont insist that your bigotry and racism is somehow supported by the Bible.
Dont try to convince me that when Jesus admonished his followers to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and care for the sick what he really meant was to do the exact opposite.
Dont tout your alleged Christian principles while you worship a man who has absolutely no principles whatsoever.
Dont blaspheme by adoring the Golden Calf that has led you to turn against everything you allegedly once believed in.
If you are willing to turn a blind eye to children being traumatized and abused, you are not a Christian. If you are willing to look the other way while your pResident demeans people on the basis of their race or ethnicity, you are not a Christian. If you are willing to watch your fellow citizens suffer and die for lack of affordable healthcare, you are not a Christian.
The religious leaders who told you that Trump was chosen by God are NOT Christians. If they were, they would never have tried to convince you that a man known for decades to be a thief, a liar, a racist, and a bigot, who has been accused repeatedly of sexually assaulting women and young girls, was a man that God would choose to lead anyone anywhere.
So now its up to you. You can return to your Christian faith and adhere to its principles or you can continue to support a pResident who personifies behaviour and policies that are contrary to everything Jesus taught and everything you purportedly believe in.
But DONT ever tell me youre a Christian AND a Trump supporter. Youre either one or the other. And if you still insist that you are a good Christian who fears the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, you might want to prepare for your final judgment by coming up with a good explanation for why you abandoned every tenet of your faith, and every teaching of Christ, in order to fall on your knees before a man who represents everything Jesus admonished you to reject.
There are children innocent children! who are being held in conditions that most Americans would find unconscionable were they stray dogs. If you find this situation to be acceptable, if you condone it because your pResident has decreed it, if you believe that THIS is what your God would have approved of, you have not only failed as Christians, you have failed as human beings.

(8,844 posts)Love your rants. I wish you would do a MAJOR one on the total reality that the only reason Trump exists is because of the Republican Controlled Senators. If it weren't for all of them in lockstep with his every move, Trump would not exist.
Go after all of them constantly, including names, in every Rant you do..........
The Dems shouldn't be obsessed with Trump, they should be going after all the Repubs in the Senate. The Repubs in the Senate are the ONLY thing giving him the power to accomplish everything they have done and are continuing to do daily. In focusing on Trump, the Dems are enabling him by not nailing the TRUE cause of all this horrific destruction of America.
Putin/Trump are blackmailing them all with some juicy crap in their personal lives. Find out what it is and expose them all to destroy the Putin/Trump power hold on them...................

It still boggles my mind that some people strongly believe that he was sent by God to save 'Merica. It's nuts.

plural noun: Pharisees
a member of an ancient Jewish sect, distinguished by strict observance of the traditional and written law, and commonly held to have pretensions to superior sanctity.
a self-righteous person; a hypocrite.

(2,577 posts)To them, Pharisees were Jews who lived in the time of Jesus. It's too much of a stretch to their very literal minds to see that legalism and self-righteousness were the points of the stories--not one particular group at a particular point in history.
Now, with this very literal mindset one would think these folks would then follow Jesus' teachings literally as well. Not so much. They cling to a few (like no one gets to the father except through me) or go and spread the word. The core teachings--the point--they just don't get.

(6,556 posts)You speak for me, and eloquently! I have never been more outraged than I am at this moment. We are paying for the travesty that the tRump administration is perpetrating upon these innocents. Why can we not stop this from happening? This is not the America I grew up in where we took in the poor and downtrodden to help them find a better life. My own grandparents and great grandparents came here to find a better life. Over the years, many churches sponsored immigrant/ asylum seeker families in our communities. Why is it so hard for some people to not be able to acknowledge their families who came to America came as immigrants and asylum seekers. I simply blows my mind!

(100,097 posts)Hell, so are the deplorables and anyone who cheerleads on Trump. This is mortifying. I never again in my life ever want to hear some religious nut dare look me in the face and say they're "pro life" or that they actually care about children. They're clearly not and they clearly don't.

(12,165 posts)My fundie relatives give Trump a pass because they believe God put him in office. They even have an out-of-context bible verse to paper over his immoral and corrupt acts.
I saw one of my cousins this weekend. Hes very active in his church and frequently posts right wing memes. One particularly crazy one was a drawing of Trump at his desk in the Oval Office with white renaissance Jesus standing behind him with his hand on Trumps shoulder, but I digress.
Anyway, I dont talk politics with the extended fam. I really dont see them that much, so I dont want to create conflict. I live in the city, but my parents still live in the small town where I grew up along with most everyone else in my fam.
While I was there over the weekend, my fundie cousin ripped into me, unprovoked, talking about how Atlanta was a cesspool and how rural Georgia is going to punish it because gods protection has been removed since Atlanta has abortion clinics.
I told him, dont you ever judge me or try to act all holier than thou when the man you support as president has children locked in cages and constantly lies. Spare me the bullshit about how hes some kind of tool of god just because he sticks it transgender people, takes food stamps from hungry families and wants to get rid of peoples healthcare. And, I told him that he should also know that the fundamentalist embrace of this lunatic is revealing the sham of Christianity. Good luck with getting converts after this.
He said he would pray for me. And I told him he can save his thoughts and prayers for Trump Jesus.
His mouth dropped, I think because, in his eyes, I had the audacity to be so blasphemous. Hes completely blind to the damage that Trump is doing to people who need help the most. And I couldnt be happier that the people who cling to Trump are quickening the falling number of religious people in America.
Finally, I said, and dont you ever lecture me again about how I live my life. You have no moral authority. None.
And that was that.

Upon his reply that he was not superstitious I told him religion is the name people give the superstition they believe in.

(14,984 posts)I think if any journo had performed to a standard which would have satisfied me on this score, I probably would have heard about it... I certainly don't follow every media outlet, but I've NEVER been surprised in the positive direction on this matter. And that's a BFD because Pence is allegedly THE uber-Xian-Trumpist.
Feel free, anyone, to point me in the right direction, but I'm pretty sure any of them *who even have the fortitude to raise the issue at all* do not press the matter with any sort of intellectual honesty or rigor -- at best they ask a "hard question" and let his BS smarmy answer stand without adequate probing.

(15,548 posts)This needs to be all over social media, it's that good.
I had a thought yesterday about what I could do, small but would make me feel better. There is a very large Catholic church in my area that has their people place little blue and pink flags all over their massive front yard two or three times a year. It's on a heavily trafficked street. We all know it's their way of saying "oh look how many "babies" are killed by abortion. I want to go talk to the priests and ask them if they could have their parish put flags in the front to represent all of the little children who are now imprisoned in concentration camps. I would say to him/them, "So what color do you think we should use for the flags?" "Can we keep them there until the children are all reunited with their parents?" I just want to put them on the spot.
So glad I'm an atheist, and as someone else posted, I'm a better Christian than most so-called religious people.

One that's perhaps more akin to voodoo.
They believe all they have to do is say they accept Jesus and they're magically saved. Never mind the biblical passage "Faith without works is dead."
In a society prone to instant gratification, get rich quick schemes and so on it's not surprising a religion promising instant salvation is popular.

(10,226 posts)They bow before the Jesus that believes in violent retribution rather than meek forgiveness, one who practices an eye-for-an-eye, a tooth-for-a-tooth and would never turn the other cheek like a pussy. They fantasize about the Hollywood action-movie version of Christ, who would have gunned down the phalanx of Roman soldiers trying to crucify him with a .50 Caliber machine gun, just like Rambo.
Their Jesus is of superior, Northern European stock, not a little dark-skinned guy from some Middle Eastern shithole. Their Lord and Saviour is a rapacious hedge fund manager, carrying an exotic leather-skin briefcase and an iphone, not some poor loser who overturns the money-changers' tables in the temple. Their son of Yaweh would have cut a deal with Judas for his share of the 30 pieces of silver, and charged the rubes admission to the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus H. Christ, a guy's gotta make a living, right?
The only similarity between Jesus of the New Testament and their modern-day Christ is both guys are rocking really cool beards. And that crown of thorns and cross? Well, modern-day kick-ass Jesus has them tattooed on his massive biceps.

(2,577 posts)This piece hit me on so many important levels. I am so damned tired of White Evangelicals supposedly representing Christianity. They don't. Not even close. No way.
I have needed to read something like this that calls out White Evangelicals and their hate-filled hypocrisy. I'm tired of being told that to be a Christian is to be a fetus-loving, patriarchal homophobe. I'm tired of hearing that Jesus would not want government to help people. I'm tired of being told that we can only help "deserving" (not brown) people.
I have often suspected that neither White Evangelicals nor their well-to-do pastors have ever actually studied the bible they claim to follow.
