From the Texas Tribune on Twitter

1/ People are buying diapers, wipes, soaps and toys to donate to children in overcrowded migrant detention centers.

But they're being turned away. https://bit.ly/2X29n8J

2/ News reports have been circulating of facilities having drinking water that tastes like bleach and sick children without enough clothing.

3/ An influx of migrants along the southwest border has stretched facilities beyond capacity.
er
Some lawyers who have visited them are calling them unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

4/ So, people want to donate diapers and toys to children at Border Patrol facilities in Texas.

They're being turned away.

5/ On Sunday, Austin Savage and his friends spent $340 on diapers, wipes, soaps and toys for migrant children being held in a Border Patrol facility.

When the group arrived, they found that the lobby was closed.

The Border Patrol agents ignored them.

6/ Before they left, the group spotted a discarded plastic bag near the lobby door holding toothpaste and soap that had a note attached to it:

“I heard y’all need soap + toothpaste for kids.”

7/ Gabriel Acuña, who grew up in Clint and attempted to visit the facility in his hometown Sunday morning, called the situation “heartbreaking” and said he felt “powerless.”

“For God’s sake, they’re kids, man.”

8/ Last week, an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice argued in court that the government shouldn’t be required to give migrant children inside Border Patrol detention facilities toothbrushes, soap, towels or showers.

9/ 4 toddlers were reportedly hospitalized after lawyers visited a facility & found them severely ill & not receiving medical attention, according to the Huffington Post.

They were under 3.

According to the lawyers, one was “completely unresponsive.”

10/ We spoke to one lawyer about the conditions inside an immigrant detention center in South Texas. Here’s what she told us.

"Basic hygiene just doesn't exist there."

11/ Immigrants were living in overcrowded spaces and sometimes were forced to sleep outside a building where the water "tastes like bleach."

"It was so bad that the mothers would save any bottled water they could get and use that to mix the baby formula."

12/ Democratic state Rep. @TerryCanales40 of Edinburg tweeted this weekend that he wrote to Border Patrol asking for a list of acceptable items to donate.

He said officials told his office by email they do not accept donations.

13/ “Those children feel like the world has given up on them, and we have to fight for them.” — @TerryCanales40

It's what they've been pushing for, for a long, long time. This is purely a reflection on them. That they want to blame this on Obama is just pathetic. They show themselves to be nothing more than cold, heartless squatters on this land.

What is WRONG with these people! It's like they get some kind of sadistic joy out of torturing innocent children simply because their skin is brown. The cruelty IS the point. I am beginning to thing they are enjoying making these children suffer.

God, I am just so fucking angry about this! People are showing up with donations, which costs these facilities nothing and they still won't accept them. And we are paying $750.00 per DAY per CHILD and they are getting nothing! Where is that money going? Even if they spent $50 per day on them, they would still be living better than they are living now.

I need a fucking drink.

The Rump wants to whine about how Dems are not letting him help the poor children, so he has to hurt them more. Meanwhile, he is raking in money from the concentration camps and spending your money on golf. All in a day's work for him.

theoretical boat as you. But we can still think it. It's actually kind of cathartic.

I also think something has to break soon. There is just too much tension building and sooner or later it's going to come to a head. I think things seem to be escalating. I just hope this time that he is the one who is going to be on the losing end of the deal.

Especially to children. I hope these guards are exposed and hounded for the remainder of their days once this is all over. They don't deserve to go on living peaceful, happy lives after their participation in this atrocity.

I remember in my 20s, I was still living in Flint. Water was still being piped in from Detroit back then but there was a break in the line and the water got contaminated. Chlorine was added to counteract that. One day the water smelled like sewage, the next it smelled like a swimming pool. Imagine showering in and drinking that crap.

Create literally mountains of donated supplies around the entrances to the concentration camps, along with vast numbers of protesters recording everything that the guards do or say in response.

Something that would create an enormous amount of negative publicity and media attention for the regime.

Just an idea.

$700.00 per day, per child. Why are conditions so terrible? WHO is in charge, and why are they not being called on the carpet for the abuse? Great money maker for someone, so I doubt they are in any hurry to re-unite these children with their parents, and empty the facilities.
