There is a mad bidding war among their ultra-wealthy when the tuna season begins officially in Japan, to own the biggest tuna that makes it to the dock the first day.

Its just like our ultra wealthy here that do stupid ego-related stuff as well, like the guy that had a luxury bedroom in his house for his car.

so I guess some folks in Colorado will be munching on this tuna too!

My family in Japan is not rich - at all! When we visited in June, they spent plenty of
money on fine food for us. All food in Japan is expensive - the Japanese pay a pretty penny
for practically everything they put in their mouths.

The thing that surprised me the most was how good their pizza was. I heard it was due to Italians who immigrated there after the war.

"Though the fish is undoubtedly high quality, the price has more to do with the celebratory atmosphere that surrounds the first auction of the year."

Can't they just shoot guns in the air, like everybody else?

Much safer for the Tuna.

I am one of the rare people in today's society who doesn't get the concept of "comfort food." I never once ate to comfort myself - other than to alleviate hunger, that is.

I don't get why someone would spend that kind of money just to eat sushi when I can find perfectly good, hunger-sating sushi in a number of decent restaurants.

As my hubby says, he lives to eat and I eat to live.

A friend and I did the tasting menu at the restaurant "Blue".

http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/GrandCayman/Dining/Blue-byEricRipert/Menu.htm

With tax & tip, it ran about $200 each (good thing we don't drink, it would have been even more!). Was it worth it? Well, I can honestly say that the service and atmosphere were the best I've ever experienced. The food was exquisite. The portions were small, but there were so many courses that I didn't leave hungry. I wouldn't go someplace like this that often even were it in my budget, but I'm glad I did it once.
