Trump's obsession with the citizenship question isn't just about the 2020 census,

it's about every census thereafter. Once it's there in black-and-white, it would take a huge amount of pressure to knock it off the form. It would give the Republican Party the ability to stay in power forever at both the national and state levels, essentially turning the U.S. into a one-party state, like other dictatorships.

More than anything else, the official dividing of the population of the United States into two classes -- citizens and non-citizens -- will be the ongoing legacy of Donald J. Trump.

In this way, Fat Donnie can enshrine his anti-immigrant racism into the fabric of the country forever, or until Ivanka becomes president, whichever comes first. #UnwantedIvanka

(Do any science fiction fans see a foreshadowing of this citizen/non-citizen society in Robert Heinlein's novel, Starship Troopers? )

that "it made Leni Riefenstahl look like Norman Jewison."

But to many of our friends in the GOPee, it was "influential."
