..Sunday, 22 June 1941, and Dunkirk

Dunkirk is when the allied soldiers escaped from France as the Germans took over that country. Yes, tens of thousands of soldiers escaped to fight another time. Times looked very bad for the allies against Nazi Germany.

Sunday, 22 June 1941 German invasion of the Soviet Union. Looked very bad for many months as the Germans advanced to Moscow. Evidently the Soviet leader, Stalin, was taken by surprise by the invasion. . The deaths defy description. 26 Million Soviets died as a result of the invasion, and 11 million Soviet soldiers died. This is actually hard to believe. And it was 78 years ago. Yet, the Soviet Union survived and Nazi Germany lost.

So what is the point? How does this relate to problems today? Trump is acting one way on July, 11, 2019. Our side is acting differently. We know who is good and who is evil. It may look like it is moving a certain direction.

Question: How will this be in November 2020? No one knows. Judging today's events as the "answer" and the Way it Will End, is meaningless. Anything can happen to change how things are going. It looked a certain way at Dunkirk, and the Nazi German Invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. It turned out totally different.

No one knows how current situation with Trump, Democrats, Republicans, Congress, and the Courts will end. No matter how it looks, things can turn out totally different than what we expect or predict. November 2020 is 16 months away. Anything can happen in the future and often does.

3. I am suggesting that we fight, but at the same time look to the future,

and keep in mind that this battle, is not our last battle. Especially if we are going to be in good shape to fight for the election of a new president in November 2020. We must be resilient and strong. The battles now may seem to the most important, but the first primary doesn't happen till Feb 2020. That is not tomorrow or next week. We have to save our strength to fight the battles to come. Let Trump run out of energy, then maybe he won't run for reelection. But that is in the future and we will see.

2. I'm listening to the book, "Symphony for the City of the Dead" right now.

My jaw has dropped repeatedly with "holy shit, how did they get out of that?!" moments - both about individuals and cities/nations. You are absolutely right. I refuse to give up hope that our nation of laws and accountability will ultimately prevail. I'm staying in the fight.

On a side note: For those who like book recommendations and enjoy history and/or music, I cannot recommend this highly enough. The audible version is fantastic because it includes snippets of the music as well as the narrative. Shostakovich's 7th symphony is my favorite long orchestral work, and I never knew the full story behind it. Talk about something that had a shockingly small chance of ever seeing the light of day, wow!
