(768 posts)Just look at what the world did to itself in the 20th Century. Nearly, 100,000,000 people died in the world wars; in fact nearly 3% of the world population died in WWII. A mere 75 years ago.

(45,806 posts)DT hit on a lot of sore spots during his campaign like bringing jobs back , new health care that will be better & cheaper, sealing the boarders, etc. They decided to give him a try.
After the election, lots of 'em realized those were all LIES!
There are still some supporters, (his base), but he's lost a lot of voters who now realize now it was BS.
I believe he's got about 35% who won't leave him for any reason, but there was enough losses that he won't get reelected. It's hard to believe that, but his 35% are VERY LOUD and make us feel there's more of them.

(271 posts)It really doesn't matter because I believe humans will almost reach extinction in less than 100 years. There will be some humans left since I believe humans have a will to survive and the brains to do it in small numbers.

(22,513 posts)Psychics can deliver precise, arcane information by speaking to a deceased's, still-alive-after-death Mind. Anyway, while the brain will do whatever it takes to survive and satisfy bodily cravings, the soul will direct the Mind towards spiritual values like generosity, compassion, kindness, brotherhood.
For reasons I won't go into here, on any day our earth population will be composed of people whose souls vary in spirit value from the size of a mustard seed to huge. The mustard seeds don't have enough soul energy to overcome brain desires. They live for money, sex, power, food, status. The only things that exist to them are physical. The great souls are naturally considerate of others...the boy who poses with shelter animals to help them be adopted, the white girl or boy who says their best friend of another race is their twin, the kid who collects coats or backpacks for poor children.
As long as there is soul, there is hope for us. All but the mustard seeds will respond to examples or leadership by great soul. By the way, the utmost heroism...sacrificing oneself for others...is all-soul behavior. One cannot think oneself into that level of action. And, that is beyond religion.
Right now, there are more soul-conscious people than not, according to polls. The GOP has disintegrated to the anti-soul level. Segregationist, racist, homophobic, money loving, intolerant, exclusive, xenophobic. If you look at a poll, see the percentage for democrats. They're the ones nowadays displaying soul values.
NOT proselytizing!!!! Everyone entitled to his own thloughts!

(9,243 posts)The distinct burden of being a climate scientist
On election night 2016, Kim Cobb, a professor at the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech, was on Christmas Island, the worlds largest ring-shaped coral reef atoll, about 1,300 miles south of Hawaii. A climate scientist, she was collecting coral skeletons to produce estimates of past ocean temperatures. She had been taking these sorts of research trips for two decades, and over recent years she had witnessed about 85 percent of the islands reef system perish due to rising ocean temperatures. I was diving with tears in my eyes, she recalls.
In a row house made of cinder blocks on the tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, she monitored the American election results, using a satellite uplink that took several minutes to load a page. When she saw Donald Trumps victory, she felt shock and soon descended into severe depression. I had the firm belief that Washington would act on climate change and would be acting soon, the 44-year-old Cobb says. When Trump was elected, it came crashing down. . . .
And the Trump Cult and even most Democrats (politicians and voters) just deny it's happening. ALL of them. Even Tom Perez - head of the DNC refuses to allow a debate dedicated to climate change. AS IF IT'S NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH.
Duh.

(2,343 posts)when politics arent involved. I saw a couple examples on a flight this week. An elderly Hispanic lady couldnt get her carry-on lifted high enough to get it in the overhead. Four different men of varying ages and ethnic groups worked to help her. And one man made a point to get it out at the end of the flight.
Then, our fight was about 45 minutes landing in Chicago. The flight attendent asked those who had time to remain seated so those with tight connections could more quickly deboard. I thought to myself, "Yeah, right. That'll happen!" You know what? It did!
To be sure, these were small examples, but still indicative of good people.
I dont think it would have been the case if everyone had bottoms on their shirts labeling their political preferences.
I catch myself intensely observing one-on-one interactions when I know the participants are strangers to one another. The vast majority are cordial and positive. I dont think that would be the case if political affiliations were conspicuous. For example, MAGA hats would be detrimental to interactions.
All that said, I believe I van put my faith in most Americans. I'll say 75%.

(248 posts)I am no therapist, but I believe this group of people have never been interested in politics until trump. I believe they felt left out of the mainstream until they heard trump. They finally feel that they are a part of something important and that they make a difference. This is like a drug to them. Somebody is finally on their side. They will not willingly give up something that makes them feel so important. However misguided they are, if someone could make them feel as included and important as trump does, it could possibly break through. This is why they dont care what he does as long as he makes them feel included. We must find a way to convince them. I dont know what that would be, but surely some expert knows.

(31,388 posts)It seems 2 out of 5 people support the traitorous lying racist misogynist sack of $hit occupying the Oval Office. I think about that whenever I'm out walking and passing people on the street. 40% support that narcissistic a$$hole who is dismantling our government. Separating families at the border. Locking children in cages. Denying pediatricians access to treat those kids. Encouraging his supporters to demand duly elected Congressional Representatives be deported because they oppose him and his policies. It's mind blowing. Every 2 out of 5 people support this $hit!
