(115,706 posts)treason, as defined by the law and interpreted by the courts, consists of aiding and abetting an enemy in a declared war. It's traitorous, of course, but it's not indictable treason.

(33,347 posts)The problem is that the only law declaring punishment for treason includes a definition of enemy effectively as you said.
So, Trump has committed treason, but Congress never got around to defining a punishment for treason with a hostile power not engaged in acts governed by the rules of war.

Treason needs to be updated to modern era. Putin doesn't have to fire a shot to defeat us.
