Robert Mueller and a soccer game

I went to a soccer game last night...Fiorentina from Italy vs Benfica from Portugal.

Crowd was largely working class families from Newark. Everyone had a great time.

Now, why am I telling you this?

Because what the crowd WASN'T doing was huddling in front of the TV listening to Rachel Maddow -- or Sean Hannity -- discuss what happened at the Mueller Hearings. They didn't CARE. More to the point, most of them probably had jobs that didn't provide the luxury of putting on a TV or video feed of the Hearings.

This is not an issue that voters are fixated on. The latest polling says that fewer than 25% of the voters want an Impeachment hearing...and that number has been dropping. They care about the pocketbook issues that will let them spend an evening at a soccer game. They'll focus on the Democratic Primary sometime next January, and the General Election sometime next September.

We won't get rid of Trump through Impeachment (and if we did, we'd have President Pence). We get rid of him by winning next November. With the voters from a soccer match.

(nb - if Roma had been playing as originally scheduled, they wouldn't have given up the wining goal at 90:00 + 2)

(see: 2018, 2012, 2008, 2006...)

To paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld: You go to the election with the voters you have.

Add to which: how would Impeaching Trump (whether you convict him or not) change the situation?

The Thorns from Portland and the Dash from Houston. In addition to formally welcoming back the nine roster players who had played in the Women's World Cup, particularly the four who won the championship, the crowd was very much abuzz. Several times the audience - largest in club history - spontaneously broke out into a chant of "Equal pay! Equal pay!" What the crowd WASN'T doing was letting defeatists shape their world or its possibilities. They enjoyed a top-notch team AND the issues of the day.

the Cleveland Plain Dealer with a dramatic above the fold headline that captured
the important essence of the Mueller hearing.

Two words were actually highlighted in yellow - NO!

They were pointed questions to Mueller to which he answered NO!

This on the front page.
“Did you actually totally exonerate the President?” NO!
“Does that (report) say there was no obstruction? NO!

So it is a baby step to getting the attention of people who do not pay attention and hopefully will help to payoff at the polls next year.
